I adore Midsomer Murders. It's my go to comfort show. If I'm stressed or just need something cozy to knit by, that's the show I watch, particularly the ones with Jones and the original Barnaby.

I don't like Troy much, either. He's a huge homophobe and I think even Tom Barnaby gets very frustrated with his backward attitudes. Season 7 you get Scott, who's a little more competent, but still not that endearing. At the end of 8 you get Jones who stays until I think either series 16 or 17. He's by far my favorite. He's got a lot more personality and he's the most intelligent of the 3 men who work with the first Barnaby. I still haven't warmed up to the "new" John Barnaby, the cousin who takes over for Tom when he leaves. I think that happens near the end of 15. He's okay, but he's more cerebral than Tom ever was.

I adore many Brit series Inspector Morse, Lewis, Endeavour, Poirot, George Gently, Vera, Scott and Bailey, Grantchester,A Touch of Frost, and Miss Marple. Then there's Sherlock and every other incarnation of Sherlock Holmes and Watson. There's also one called Suspects which is different, not the least bit cozy, but still entertaining. Some of these are quite cozy, others rather dark and suspenseful. Midsomer is top-notch cozy that's in a league of its own though when it comes to unique and intriguing murders. Plus, I just love all the country settings. It's like a character of its own in each episode.

Brits do such a better job on the mystery than the US, or at least they do for me.

You're so right about the US and the kind of shows they produce. The procedural has its place, but it's not my favorite kind of show or reading. I much prefer the cozy.
