House of Eliott: Season 3 (end of series)
Gosh darn it, a cliffhanger! And on the last season, too! Apparently, they thought a fourth season was a sure thing at the time or something.
As much as I prefer Beatrice as a character, I think Evangeline had a lot more growth throughout the series, even though I’m not always entirely certain that I like the person she’s become. Though at least her taste in men has improved over the series. I actually like Daniel by the end of the season, instead of actively disliking him like I have all the other men she fell for! (Not counting Jack, which lasted about 5 seconds, anyway.) Though I admit I was rooting for Miles, who was nice and sweet and unassuming, and so I’m decidedly unthrilled with the last minute reveal that he’s plotting against Evie/Daniel and wants to take over the company or something. But then, we only really have Evie and Daniel’s assumption to go on with that, and neither of them is exactly known for thinking before speaking.
Bea and Jack’s relationship, I think, is one of the best examples I’ve seen of showing that a couple doesn’t get dull just because they get together. Even their separation was shown in the context of trying to make a marriage work. I do wish, though, that Bea had learned she was pregnant after she went back to Jack, as opposed to being a cause for it, even if I do think they would have gotten back together anyway. Also, as soon as both Bea and Tilly were pregnant, I knew that one of the babies was going to die, which made me sad.
I really liked the focus in this season on how the fashion world was changing, and am even sadder over the ending because that was only really kicking off at the end. I think, though, that things aren’t nearly as bad as they initially look. Tilly will probably get her job at HoE back as soon as she asks for it, and while Bea and Evie may still clash when it comes to the business (I suspect season 4 would have resulted in two branches of HoE, one tailored to each sister’s preferences) I’m not really worried about their personal relationship.
