Ugh. I think we've had biased narration and POV thrown at us for so long and presented as "unbiased" and "the way things are," especially from a pretty white man, that people have forgotten how to deal with a narrative where that type of character might be wrong about something and that's okay.
Also, yes, Damon has a lot of respect for Bonnie. I think she's a puzzle he doesn't get, and she has power, and he clearly seems to respect that. I think he treats Bonnie as more of an equal than he treats most of the characters, partly because I don't think Damon (often) respects those who can't kick his ass.
