And Elaine and Susan were back to cat-and-mouse-frenemies-bordering-on-friends games. (And I wonder if Elaine knows Doug is feeding Susan information?) The series better end with them as allies, and not back on the antagonistic track. And I liked Elaine scenes with her mother a lot. A LOT GUYS. EVEN WHEN THEY WERE FIGHTING.

These things are totally why I love it so much, despite the bits I'm wary of or don't like. I love that it's remained devoted to the structure of centralizing Elaine and Susan and their interactions and parallels. And that relationship is so much more complicated than I'd have thought they'd try for? I'd have assumed they'd make it clear they were faking with each other to get a story or stop a story, but they also genuinely like each other and it's actually quite ambiguous. I really want it to end with them as allies, or at least I really don't want the show to try to pivot and say there was no spark, that they were each faking the whole time, or something.

And the fight with her mom! LOVED IT. Bechdel passing! About personal and political ambition and stuff! I'm so glad her mom is not there for "drunk Grandma" comic relief. So great. I need icons.

ETA that I'm actually weirdly happy with it as a miniseries (though I might really love a season 2, in the British style). When something is doing such specific things that I love, especially with women, I ALWAYS worry that it won't be sustainable on an American network with an American length season and eventually everyone's going to forget what made it good or interesting and revert to the lowest common denominator. :/
