>shrug< I don't ship Gojyo/Hakkai just because I have a thing for m/m ... I do it because I think it would make them happy. (And I was going to send you a link to a good essay I found on why they go well together, and now I can't find the blessed thing ... there's some really good analysis of Saiyuki hereabouts on LiveJournal.)
As a counterexample, I have no desire to match Sanzo up with anyone. My wish for him is that he should come to peace with himself and be comfortable inside his own skin, like his former master, Koumyo.
I do love the variety of guys in Samurai Deeper, and the fact that there are relatively few active female protagonists (Yuya, Mahiro, Tokito, Sakuya, Okuni, and maybe Shihoudou - later on) certainly makes it tempting to match them up. But some of the guys are so very damaged that it's hard for me (as a person who has had to deal with damaged friends) to think up good matches for them. For example, Kamijyo seems to be giving us Tokito with Akira, and I hate that - I don't think she'll help him one bit. And doesn't Akari deserve someone, since she can't have Kyo? And Yukimura seems to have totally divorced physical passion and friendship: he has his friends, for whom he's willing to risk death, and then he runs off to the teahouse girls (and probably boys, for that matter) when he needs to deal with other issues.
>sigh< I just want 'em all to be happy, in the end!
