loot roundup

52 Week #7-8:  With 2 of the 3 most interesting "leads" of the series missing(Ralph, Black Adam, and The Question being the 3) about all that was left of interest was Booster, the space heroes, and, to a lesser degree, Steel.  Hopefully this is a temporary losing of steam, as opposed to a portent ofthings to come.

Annihilation Nova #3/Annihilation Ronan #3:  Much better than the last batch's Annihilation offerings.  Drax and Cammi are wearing off on Nova big time(this is a fun thing) and Gamora finally made Ronan worthwhile.

Birds Of Prey #95:  Plus:  The wrapup was better than the rest of the arc.  Quasi minus: Dinah's keeping the kid.  Very undecided about that.

Blue Beetle #4:  Me wants a new artist.  Otherwise, me is enjoying.  That must have been a first for babs.

Captain America Vol 5 #19: Several times I've thought I'd move this one to trades only.  But Brubaker won't let me.  Hmph.  Also, first I've liked Sharon, as opposed to just not minding her.

Crisis Aftermath The Spectre #2: Not as good as the first issue, largely because I don't think I like where a few things are going.  Sticking with it, though.

DCU Brave New World #1: Martian Manhunter: Doo Doo.  Freedom Fighters:  Seemed the same at first, but looks like it may be OK if it doesn't get too caught up in political statements(twice I looked to see if Winnick was writing.) Omac:  Looks very interesting, but Rucka is WAY too caught up in his Mary Sues @ DC, so I don't know yet.  Trials of Shazam:  MUCH better than expected, especially given First Thunder.  Is safely remaining on the pull list. Atom:  Story looks highly entertaining, but that art...  Creeper:  Looks quite good, esp the design for Creeper. Definately getting the trade, possiblthe singles.

JSA Classified #13:  It lost some steam, but wrapped up well, esp. as it finally let Alan show his coolness.  A bit disappointed it took Savage as long to figure THAT out at the end there, though.

Lai Wan #1: It's been so long since it was solicited, that I'd forgotten about this book.  Undecided about it, for now.  Concept is interesting(if more and more common) but there's no real feel for the character yet aside from having poor people skills.

Manhunter #23: Mark Andreyko, I and all Starman fans are now your lifelong fans.  That is all.

Marvel Westerns Outlaw Files: WHEE! "Blaze of Glory" and "Apache Skies"?  The "real" Rawhide Kid.  "Slap Leather"?  An underground, mostly unknown movie.  For this alone, I shall support the project(aside from the fact that the 2 issues already out are good...)

Moon Knight #3:  In one issue, this book went from "wait for the trade" to "never touching again" to "wait for the trade."  SToryline is keeping it as a trade, but the absolutely horrid rendition of Taskmaster and unnecessary and arbitrary character change almost got the issetrashed.

Noble Causes #21:  Losing patience with the Blackthornes, but at least it finally seems to be starting to build to the climax.  And Frost is back.

Runaways Vol 2 #17:  Hrm...not as good as #16(or thefirst #17) but it wins points for Victor using his brain, and actually managing to surprise me.

Shadowpact #2:  Swiftly rising higher and higher on my list, and "Day of Vengeance" leftovers had it starting out pretty high.  I now fear for Detective Chimp.

Stardust Kid #4:  It's so long in between issues that, while I still remember story points, I start forgetting characers.  If it were ongoing, I'd go ahead and switch to trades, not for lack of enjoyment, but forclarity.  As it is, though, there's only one issue left.

Supergirl And The Legion Of Super-Heroes #19:  Supergirl ca go home now, unless there's a good payoff coming.  Goodness otherwise.

Usagi Yojimbo #94:  Fillin, mostly.  Probably putting off the "Tomoe getting married" story in anticipation of enraged shippers(ok, notreally...)  Still, but goodness abounds.

Witchblade #99:  Sigh, Gleason is becoming more and more of a Mary Sue.  Granted, he's a likable Mary Sue, but I don't appreciate the way Marz is disposing of the (worthier) men in Sara's life to make more room for him.

Young Avengers #12:  Sigh...a doublesized issue, only to have most of the "double sized" part devote to a dull, completely unrelated story I have no interest in and don't htink I even bothered to finish reading.  At least the wrap up to the series itself was good, and Kate finally got a codename.  I would have rather she'd got her own codename, instead of inheriting one(largely because she was given that name because someone at Marvel would shut Hawkeye fans up)  Still, Clint would like her, so I suppose I don't mind, and it suits her well enough.
