Berkeley Square + anime: Spiral
Berkeley Square is a BBC production from the late 90s about 3 young nannies(by the end of the series) in turn of the century London. There's Matty, a girl from the east end who worked her way up the domestic ladder(my favorite of the three) Hannah, who had an affair-and subsequently a child- with the young master of the house then fled to London after his death, and Lydia, a farm girl who comes to London as a nursemaid to escape spending her life spawning more farmers and working herself to death(ok, not how thay put it, but...) It's an interesting look at the time period, and what life was like for women at the time(one thing I thought was going to happen that didn't was Hannah becoming an early activist for children's rights and protection, but ah well) and how little some parents really cared about their children as individuals. I quite liked it, and spent most of it wondering where I've seen Matty and Hannah before(only to learn that the only thing I've seen either in is Matty in Bulletproof Monk...ah well)
I also finished the Spiral rewatch. Like most animes, the second half switches away from the more standalone stories into the main storyarc, and it becomes more ensemble with more focus on the Blade Children. Most importantly, we get Ryoko, who I adore. (aside: Kaname in Full Metal Panic reminds me a fair bit of Ryoko.) Unlike the other Blade Children, she's not all plots and outthinking and outthinking others-she smart, but she's a lot more forthright than the others-she speaks her mind and if you get in her way, misbehave or get too caught up in your angsting, she'll kick your butt-literally. Like Hiyono, she's something of a force of nature that you just have to go along with if you don't want to end up utterly lost. And hey, she and Kousuke are cute and fun-there's nothing like a good secondary OTP. We also get to see Saiyoko again, and see that she may not be the shrinking violet damsel in distress we(and everyone in the cast) thinks she is. I like Saiyoko, and how the other Blade Children seem to be so protective of her, even though they don't know her-for all that Eyes, Kousuke, and Rio are all "kill or be killed our life is a battle," they, or at least Eyes, obviously wish it didn't HAVE to be that way, as is evidenced by his attempts to keep Saiyoko away from it all(which Ryoko would view as a double standard and punch him for, but hey.) And Kanone...sigh...he doesn't receive the levels of hate that Kiyotaka does(I've had a mental metal baseball bat with rusty metal nails welded to it for years-giving his younger brothers issues like that and walking out on his wife and brother...rrr...) but he needs to never go near my woobies again. Ever.

Next up in rewatching anime is Wolf's Rain(which if I were forced to name a single anime as my absolute favorite, it'd likely be Wolf's Rain, but then I'd feel really guilty towards several others.) Vague rewatch schedule is Wolf's Rain, Otogi Zoshi, Scrapped Princess, Twelve Kingdoms, Kino's Journey and Samurai Deeper Kyo, though of course that's subject to change. I also want to rewatch Firefly and Remington Steele sometime soon.
