Well, the rest of the series wasn't as awesome as the movie/opening arc, it was still pretty good.  Dome of the "lessons for kids" messages were a bit heavy for my 27 year old self, but not enough to warrant throwing across the room or anything.

Ep. 4: Jack captures a "savage beast" and learns that it's part of a race that was "tamed" by the new inhabitants, only to learn that the "civilized" race stole the land and enslaved the peaceful former inhabitants.  We shall simply say that it's a good thing I was already in love with the show, because few things are guaranteed to make me growl at you than an allegory for how the Evil White Man stole from and abused the Peaceful Native Americans.  Yes, it's an important part of history, but I got the point 300-400 times ago.  And yeah, it's for kids, but it's oblique enough that for you to recognize it for what it is, you'll have long since gotten the point(it's very heavy handed, but not immediately obvious unless you're used to the dressing they put on it).

Ep 5:  Jack meets some scientists fleeing from Aku who tell him they can help him get back to his own time.  I admit that I didn't recognize the referrence for the scientists so that part didn't inspire love, but Jack in a rocket suit?  Swordfighting in deep space?  That was most excellent.  Naturally, Jack sacrificed his only chance to go home to save the scientists.

Ep 6:  Jack is looking for a jewel that can send him home and meets a female warrior who wants to destroy Aku for killing her father.  Naturally, she turns out to be Aku in disguise. Uhm...ah...there was a lot of cool stuff in there, but I can't quite get my brain past the part where Jack was rather taken with Aku when he thought he was a girl...

Ep 7: I am very, very distracted a few hours later, trying to figure out what movie this was an homage to.  It involved Jack going to a fortress that supposedly had a well that could grant any wish, but the fortress was guarded by three monstrous archers, and there was lots of Jack trudging through the snow in his straw hat.  Anyone want to help me out?  Anyway, great fun.

Ep 8:  One of the two eps on a par with the opening story.  Aku throws everything and the kitchen sink at Jack, and then when Jack finally loses it, he uses Jack's rage to create "Dark Jack," an evil version of Jack.  From then on out, it's all the two Jacks heroically/villainously posing and it's all glorious fun.  Aku should try that trick again.

Ep 9:  Moby Dick/Atlantis homage time.  Jack follows a story about a time machine to an underwater city, only to learn it's a trap.  Fun, but nothing spectacular.

Ep 10: It is "I respect you so you must fight me to the death so I can die a noble warriors death and go to the afterlife like a true warrior" time.  Involving a giant viking who's been turned into a volcano rock monster.  It doesn't get much more entertaining.

Ep 11:  And now we have the  "noble clean polite manners driven warrior clashing with and then befriending the scruffy grungy illmannered brute of a foreing warrior" story.  Certain classics always work.  I assume the Scotsman will hope up again.

Ep 12:  Mobster Jack.  There's some sort of plot involving Jack joining the mob because they have ties to Aku, but really, it's just about seeing Jack in a suit, acting like a gangster.  It works.

Ep 13:  Aku sees children cosplaying as Jack and himself, with him cast as the villain, and decides to make them fans of his by kidnapping them them and telling stories glorifying himself and demonizing Jack.  Once you get to the part where Little Red Riding Hood can shoot laser light beams from her eyes, it's increasingly brain breaking from there on out.  Good brainbreaking, but brainbreaking.

I will now watch something light, normal, and non-brainbreaking.
