The anime is very much the "lite" versions of the characters and again, they couldn't really get into them in 26 episodes so they jusy had their basic, initial roles. Shinrei and Akira are relatively right, if stripped down, but Hotaru(even though I like him in the anime) is really missing most of his personality. He's all serious and focused...it's just wrong. Manga Hotaru would never try to kill Akira as presented there...too much effort, considering that he doesn't REALLY care about the Mibu.

If Akira and Hotaru in the manga ever REALLY went at it, Japan would be in SERIOUS trouble.
