Sigh...Guo Jing...you just don't have a suspicious or cautious bone in your body, do you? I guess they were so busy stuffing you full of niceness and heroism and righteousness(but not self-righteousness...I'm pretty sure you don't even know what that is) that there was no room left for common sense. Maybe it's like
calixasays...he's Nao from Liar Game, only a guy and in wuxia form, and with the skills to get him out of trouble. Still, one wonders how he managed to survive before he had Huang Rong to think for him(there's one brain between the two and it's not exactly a sharing situation there)
You know, I think this post is proof that, as much as I'm loving this, I'm going to go psycho for Legend of the Condor Heroes.

I have to say, as much as I like Yang Guo and Xiao Long Nu and their story, and am interested in everything in the series(except the first 3 eps...) Huang Rong remains my favorite character by far, and I find the most interesting parts to be when YG and XLN are are with GJ and HR. Incidentally, how awesome was it when the very pregnant HR kicked Mongolian Fan Guy's butt, then was all "I can't be of much use...I'm pregnant" (I was like the characters..."Uh...sure...but I'm not about to mke you mad at me) And the baby? Ok, while Mommy and Daddy's house is burning down around them is NOT the best time to decide to be born, FYI.
I loved that HR realized almost immediately that there was something "off" about YG and XLN's relationship at the contest, and she was trying to shush people before a scene was caused, except of course it didn't work and GJ, who's incapable of subterfuge, just kinda goes ballistic(then regrets it, of course, because it was his gut reaction, and as wrong as his instincts tell him it is, he really wants YG to be happy more than anything else) And, of course, when HR is explaining what life will be like for YG and XLN if they continue to XLN, there's nothing cruel or malicious about it, she's just doing her best to spare them both pain, because she thinks it's what's best for them(and honestly, if they hadn't inadvertently done the worst thing possible and blurted it out to the world the way they did, she probably would have been able to find a way to help them or something) And then there's when YG and XLN return and join them against the Mongolians and she KNOWS they're really there because YG found out she and GJ are responsible for his father's death, but instead of exposing and ruining things for them, she warns GJ to be careful(I think she knows YG can't really go through with it) and talks to XLN about it. HR wins on all levels.
Incidentally, I find it kind of hard to really hold Fu's leaving YG behind against her...her pregnant mother was injured and unconscious...can't really blame her for not being able to focus on or care about anything else. Now, never really seeming to realize that she up and left someone behind to die? Another thing altogether. It's not that she's a terrible person(and really, she's nowhere near the levels of, say, Sae-Hyun in My Girl) it's just that she never really thinks of anything else except, at times, her parents(and hopefully now her sister, too) And actually, her family is an interesting contrast with the Master of Heartless Vale and his family. HR and GJ, two very kind(and in her case, intelligent) and selfless people have a spoiled, selfish daughter, while MHV and his wife(in addition to being a twisted version of YG and XLN themselves) are two selfish, spiteful, possessive people who have a kind and selfless daughter without a selfish or malicious bone in her body. Poor thing.
Incidentally, I loved when YG realized she liked him and was all whacking his head and scolding himself for making another girl like him when he only cares about XLN. I admit, gorgeous as he is, he's still too childlike in many ways for me to really crush on him. I love him(and XLN) to pieces and freely acknowledge his awesomeness, I just can't fangirl him when I keep wanting to pat him on the head and give him a cookie for being a good boy. And I did like when he was fighting the crocodiles(
dangermousie, you wanted them to jump at the poor girl and steal her shirt so he'd have to cover her a second time, didn't you?)
