I look at it as justice for all the childhood friends/girl next door/little sister type characters who've lost out to the princess-type character in virtually every other story out there (actually, that seems to be Jin Jong's specialty)

Besides, the parents' backstory should fulfill anyone's need for a "falling for my enemy's daughter" story.
