You know there's a problem with a book...

...when you spend the first 400 pages wishing the dragon would roll over in her sleep while on the road and crush the hero into smithereens.

If Murtagh doesn't show up soon in Eldest, I may scream.

Well . . . why not wait until he's older, and then read the new stuff he puts out?

Off the top of my head, there's Dragonriders of Pern, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Earthsea . . .

I'd noticed Pern and LotR(hard to miss) but not Earthsea. Guess I see it, though.

I tend to be generous when it comes to things similar to Star Wars, though, as SW essentially IS the formula for the coming of age hero's journey.

True, but in my effort to find the list I vaguely remember through LJSeek, I came across several outlines of how it seems to follow the plot more closely than just Hero's Journey.
