I don't think I've ever claimed it was canon. But given that Yukimura's flirty behavior never causes Kyo to react the way a lot of straight guys I've known would react, it's a lot less bizarre than a lot of the shifts people make for fanfic.
I keep thinking I must've talked through my theory of "why slash" with you ... it has to do with women who don't identify with any of the female characters but do identify with one of the male characters, and who still are interested in fantasizing some sort of a relationship. I identify with Yukimura - it's a combination of his age and his constant worries about his other responsibilities - but I think Kyo is hot. Therefore - hello, Kyo/Yukimura slash.
And there are absolutely no female characters in SDK with whom I identify. Shihoudou (still not scheduled to appear for a couple more volumes) would come closest, but I still have more in common with Yukimura than I do with her ... .
