(no subject)

 Bored now.

Headed to The Pit.

ETA:

*go to SDK section*

*see what may be a promising, shiny new Kyo/Yuya fic*

*click*

*sob at the typos and grammatical errors that make your worst typo ridden post look perfect*

ETA 2:  Benitora/Sasuke? WTF?

ETA 3: I am amused by this disclaimer: "I do not own Samurai Deeper Kyo...if I did, Kyo would be my personal bed slave."  Not as much so by the story, though(one of those that goes "oh, well h gets grabby without permission, I bet he does EVERYTHING ELSE without permission too.)

I ran into that "I don't identify with the guys" thing with redbrunja as well. We had a long and sometimes bitter discussion about Hakkai/Gojyo, and that was part of it. The funny thing is, I hardly know of any female SF&F fans who don't identify with guys in stories. And for that matter, consider the authors: female authors (sometimes using male or ambiguous pseudonyms) write male leads - sometimes from the first person - all the time. It's hard to imagine that they don't identify with their male characters.

I have always been a geek/tomboy type, and identified with the male protagonists of my favorite stories as easily as I did with the females.

(Do you think you might read my Hakkai/Yaone story? I'd be really interested in your reaction.)

Well, like I said, the type of characters I most often identify with ARE guys...I just don't see how identify them leads to slash, unles there's just an inherent appeal to you. To stick with the two I listed earlier, I actually have, in the past, been tempted to ship Ishida with Orihime and Rukia, but Orihime(one sided as it is) is pretty blatant in her utter adoration of Ichigo, and Rukia...well...Rukia's one of the ones that I think may as well be asexual for all the indications she's given in canon(plus, if I DID ship Rukia with anyone, it'd probably be Renji, because he's also blatant in his adoration) so I never reached the point of shipping. The two characters in Bleach I find the most attractive(and the type I go for, crushwise) are Renji and Ichigo, but I feel no desire to ship Ishida with either one, even though many of his non-we-are-enemies-scenes are painfully familiar if you switch the gender and remove all the supernatural. With Shinrei...well, honestly, he's so straightlaced the idea of slash would probably break his brain, and all the nice girls I like are taken, and Okuni would literally eat him alive. Plus, he needs time to get over the zombie. But the short version is...identifying with a male has never made me want to ship him with a guy I found hot/was my favorite.

But like I said...I think it boils down to whether or not there's an innate appeal of guy/guy to you...if there is, then then yeah, guy you identify with + hottest guy around= gold. But if there isn't, then you just aren't going to get it.

As far as Gojyo/Hakkai/Yaone goes...well, you know what I ship in Saiyuki, but ignoring that...

I essentially view Hakkai/Gojyo as "pretty much canon, but never going to happen." On Hakkai's front, it's kinda like Yukimura...there was the One Love and there will never really be Another...I mean, becoming a mass murderer(and a demon in the process) to save your sister/girlfriend just to have her kill herself in front of you would turn a person off romance for life. As far as Hakkai/Yaone goes...I think he is drawn to her, but much of what initially drew him to her were things that reminded him of Kanon, and he likes and respects Yaone too much as an individual to ever use her as any sort of replacement.

As far as Gojyo goes...well, despite his extreme perviness(or maybe because of it) I don't see him ever entering into a sexual or romantic(because there is a difference) with anyone he actually cared about. He has sex, I think, because he craves and needs human contact, but also because there's a degree of a lack of self worth, and I think that he actually views sex itself as something of a disgusting act. After all, the thing he most identifies sex with is his older brother sleeping with his mother, with her calling out the father's name, to keep her from beating Gojyo to death. I think sex is a physical act to him, and one he finds pleasure in, but that's also connected to selfdisgusting and wrongness for him. His deepest relationships are, I think, always going to be the ones that it will never enter into, because it has negative emotional connections for him, and bringing someone he cared about into a relationship like that would, I think, "dirty" them for him.

I think I like Gojyo too much, and >cough< enjoy amorous activity too much to like the idea of his never having a good physical +emotional relationship. Yukimura has another major cause in his life to take up some of his passion; in addition, he's just not nearly as "broken" as Gojyo is.

Looking back on some of the things I wrote here, I'm sorry to have clogged up your LJ with them. I think the issue - which is all me, not you - is that I had what were essentially slash fantasies long before I knew there was such a thing as slash fanfic. It was such a relief to discover that other people enjoyed this idea, and that I was not this lone weird psycho. So I think I over-react when I hear someone say "I don't see why people have to slash."

And also pushing this issue is just going to make it harder for me to ever get you to read anything I write, even if I try to write something to your taste.

Heh...I completely understand liking a character so much you don't want them to be alone, and am uite fond of Gojyo myself, but I really do think he associates the act with dirtiness and would never actually get involved with someone he actually cared about.

As far as slash goes...I actually had the opposite experience myself. Spent years and years thinking I was the only person in the world who didn't like to slash anything they came across(and have, thankfully, since learned that not every person who likes slash will just slash everything in sight) until I finally found canon fans a few years ago, and found people who were more of the blending of both, too.

Really....I think it just comes down to if it appeals to you or not. It's why I can never get far into yaoi series, no matter how interesting the story sounds...the success depends almost entirely on how interesting you find the idea of guy/guy, and since that doesn't instantly appeal to me, I get bored. On the flipside, I actually do often enjoy canon undertones of slash. especially the ones meant to poke fun at things, such as the Himawari/Watanuki/Domeki thing in xXxHoLic, which is so blatantly poking at the shojo standard of the hyper girl hopelessly crushing on the perfect boy, despite the les obviously perfect but clearly much better suited for her boy she clashes with. Only, you know,m with some gender alterations.

(and no problem, of course...and I have read 2 of your fics, after all...)
