[Poll #1115911][Poll #1115911] ETA: And before everyone instinctively answers, I would just like to ask: How many fandoms like to write about teenaged boys getting it on with 30 foot tall robots? Don't answer, just ponder before clicking.

I voted HP, just because I've seen too much of that fandom not to. But can we talk about how the Johnny's Entertainment fandom consists entirely of inundating oneself with bad jpop and photoshopping boys into dresses? Also, this (http://whatthejin.livejournal.com/).

A very valid point. JE(the agency) rather scares me and squicks me out, so I often try to forget about it altogether.

(Internet based, at least) J R R Tolkien fandom is scary batshit insane. I dipped my toes warily in the water many years ago and removed them again, quick smart. And this was before the films were even announced.

While HP is pretty damn scary, I'm afraid the Lord of the Rings fandom is far, far worse because the movies brought us RPS. D:

Hmm...I've never actually heard of anything from the LOTR fandom.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
These are interesting results, because I've never heard of any LOTR fandom scary.

Nothing outcrazies the Harry Potter fans.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Do Harry Potter fans have teenaged boys getting it on with 30 foot tall robots?

[identity profile] magicnoire.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
I think I ran away screaming when I realized people shipped the movie actors.

Mind you, RPS is my #1 squick and is guaranteed to make me curl up into a ball and weep hysterically, so perhaps I'm biased.

HP. Definitely. For the Snapewives, if nothing else.

[identity profile] crumpeteer.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure it's there somewhwere.

Oh, RPS scares me like almost noting else in existance. I mean...ok, there are occassions where, yes, they actually do date, and there are some performers where they just SO BLATANTLY have a crush on a costar(and I am specifically thinking here about 2 asian actors who have gushed about how wonderful an actress they've both starred with is, and are pretty open about liking her) that you kinda think it would be nice in RL, and of course, most people get a thrill if 2 performers they like hook up...but that's totally different from "OMG, these 2 actors should TOTALLY hook up because they look hot together on screen" or hating someone's SO because you want that person with their costar so that your OTP is an eternal reality, and...yeah.

I'd demand proof, but I don't want to scar either of us.

Snapewives indeed.

You know...maybe i should have included buffy...

Gundam Wing, because at least some Potter fans are somewhat familiar with the plot and characters of the series they rape.

>__>; <__<;;; but in other Gundam series, there really are robosexuals...

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
You realize, of course, that in a mere 24 hours, you may have comvinced me to never touch another Gundam series again, right?

I only know about the film-LOTR RPS crazy indirectly by way of what showed up on Fandom Wank, but the tinhat brigade (http://wiki.fandomwank.com/index.php/Domlijah) do seem just terrifyingly delusional.

[identity profile] southerndave.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
I once got (textually) screamed at because I wasn't sufficiently homophobic. Considering that (at the time) I was discussing straight characters and not discussing sex at all I had no idea where that came from, except possibly something repressed in the screamer him- or herself.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Just so you know, I'm nowhere near brave enough to click that link.

[identity profile] southerndave.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
awww... but reading your reviews of the shows is such fun...

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, there are still 35 episodes to go.

[identity profile] sanada.livejournal.com 2008-01-05 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I know. Gundam is... an acquired taste. But remember, this is Japan. Virtually every man in Japan is gay for a Gundam character called Quattro Vagina.

Explain in the least scarring way possible, please.

Are we talking the Tolkien newsgroups here, or something else? I've dipped my toes into a.f.t and r.b.t. occasionally and neither seemed all *that* bad as fannish Usenet groups go -- after the films there was always the odd bit of n00b-bashing and wank over folks who only knew the movies butting horns with the sort of obsessive book fans who could cite H.O.M.E. chapter-and-verse, but many of the regulars seemed to have a sense of humor and the worst wankiness seemed to be all the off-topic political stuff that would drift in. But maybe I picked good days to wander in, and I freely admit that being one of those chapter-and-verse book nerds myself may have seriously skewed my perspective on scary insanity where Tolkien is concerned...

This guy. His real name is Char Aznable (he has mainstream name recognition in Japan on the level of like, Darth Vader and Captain Kirk). He's the villain of the 1979 series, but since the hero is such a douchebag everyone likes Char best. Anyway, at one point he infiltrates the opposition with nothing more than that unfortunately chosen alias and a pair of sunglasses. Quatre's name and looks are a homage to him... And yes, Zechs is a blatant ripoff of this guy, only with 1000000x more gay and hair.
