[Poll #1115911][Poll #1115911] ETA: And before everyone instinctively answers, I would just like to ask: How many fandoms like to write about teenaged boys getting it on with 30 foot tall robots? Don't answer, just ponder before clicking.

Do Harry Potter fans have teenaged boys getting it on with 30 foot tall robots?

I'm sure it's there somewhwere.

I'd demand proof, but I don't want to scar either of us.

Who needs mecha, HP has a giant squid humping a castle!

That I do not find that remotely shocking or scarring and only very moderately disturbing says far, far too much.

Squidwarts just makes me giggle, but for sundry odd and not terribly interesting reasons I am very, very hard to shock or squick, and things that would tend to disturb most folks just leave me inappropriately amused (and filed away mentally to whip out at some point in the future when I want to make someone else's brain explode.)

(I am reluctant to mention my candidate for "scariest" here, in part because that judgement is based not on any observed delusional fan behavior but rather because this is one of the few times I've actually found a fic that deep-down squicked me to the core; and in part because I don't think I could even explain just how disturbing that fic was in a non-scarring fashion. About all I can say to keep this vague is that, while I have seen/read equally or more disturbing acts in horror films, or guro manga, or badfic, in those settings that sort of thing tends to come across to my jaded, near-unshockable eye as mostly ludicrous. But in this case the story was actually well-written, and while it was fairly extreme, the characters involved were so fucked-up in canon that this was a strangely believable final act to an already deeply-disturbing canon, which is why those images are now BURNED ON MY BRAIN and it will never, ever be clean again.)

HP is...every time a person tries to shock me with something HP, I have to stop myself from saying that they obviously don't read much magic-laden fantasy. Not in a "look down on" way, but because I've never heard of anything HP canon that's much different from normal Tolkein/Gaiman-riff fantasy, and I've never heard anything about the fandom-aside from size-that's worse than the anime/manga fandom.

I may regret this, but what's guro manga?(I probably know the type but have forgotten the term)

*nods* I've certainly seen some pretty batshit insane behavior from HP fans, but for all the bad reputation it's never struck me as wankier or crazier overall than other fandoms, it was just so big and so high-profile that the crazy was likelier to get epic, and spill out from the dark corners to where other people could easily point and laugh, while similar nutjobs in tinier fandoms toil away in relative obscurity.

And ero guro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ero_guro) are "erotic grotesque", basically sexualized (up to and including flat-out hardcore pornographic) horror manga; link is to a safely non-illustrated brief Wiki article, but follow the links therein to artist's sites and imageboards at your own risk.

In one of the fandoms I am on the margins of, the phrase "Your Plastic Pal Who's Fun To Be With" (in reference to a robot) is authorial canon.

It's almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea a RealDoll?

It's even got a Genuine People Personality!

Now think of some of the Genuine People you actually know...

Oh, and is a fandom with suicidal teenage boys getting it on with 30-foot-tall robots more or less scary than CANON involving giant transforming robots getting constant smoochy lolicon fanservice? (http://www.hlj.com/product/TKT66908) Inquiring minds want to know...
