I think that's also part of the reason I like Amelia. For being as hyper and ditzy as she is, she has the good sense to pick out the really sensible guy who will be a keeper when he gets over his emo. And considering that curse doesn't look like it's budging, Zel might need to come to terms with the fact that a cute girl who thinks his oddity is attractive is a good thing. And Amelia gets points for picking the guy who WON'T accidentally lose the kids somewhere or trade them for food.
