Because I'm too lazy to look up where we left off...

[personal profile] smillaraaq, I wonder if the book I was trying to think of was The Book of Atrax Wolfe by Patricia McKillip(I may have the title a little off...the book is at home and I'm at work.)  I thought it was something I hadn't bought, but I finally got the books out of the trunk of the car today and saw that.  McKillip came up in the book recs post...I didn't find the ones that were specifically recced, but it seemed to be "you'll like in general, but especially these."

It is, IIRC, about a man who flees his past life and lives wth wolves for years, then eventually has to return to civilization.

Atrix Wolf is my favorite of McKillip's newer stuff. It also has the daughter of the fairy queen enchanted and amnesiac, and tons of action set in a castle kitchen: one of the few medieval-type fantasies where food gets its due!

So a good intro? I got 2 others... The Forgotten Beasts of Eld(probably not the exact title but hopefully close enough) and something to do with a cygnet.

I also have the Ile-Rien trilogy waiting now, but don't know if I need to find Death of the Necromancer first...

The book I just finished actually had a passage stand out to me, because it had the lead destroy the enemy'sentire supply of food as a far tactic, and when he found out, the enemy leader forced the guard who failed on the job to eat the ruined food.

Hmmm, I haven't read any McKillip, but I've heard good things about her -- feel free to bend my ear even more!

I'm not sure I've ever read her...I may have a bit is HS, but I can't remember. I'm sure I shall post when I read(since I always do if I can think of something beyond "I like it" or "I didn't like it" to say...)

Hee, you have the alpha and the omega - Atrix Wolf is fairly recent, Eld is very, very old - even older than "Riddlemaster."

Her recently stuff is beautiful and mysterious, but not as involving as a story as the earlier stuff is. Is it The Sorceress and the Cygnet you have? I enjoy her newer stuff, but it doesn't live in my heart the way the Riddlemaster series does.

You don't need to read Death of the Necromancer first. The main character in Death is the father of the lead in the "Fall of Ile-Rien" series, but you're told what you need to know about him for the current series. You can always look at Death as a prequel.

That sounds like the title of the Cygnet book. They all seemed to be standalones, or at least not sequels, so I got all 3 books. Which of the three would be the best to start with(and is there one to avoid)

Amazon does have the Riddle-Master omnibus, so it will theoretically be in my next order with them.

Hmm...his father...but that...that might spoil necromancer for me...*frets*

I own a copy and it's one of my "to keep" titles :)

I've loved everything I've ever read by her, she's one of my favorite authors.
