Stargate SG-1 S7 ep 18
WHAT!
THE!
HELL??
You know...I was pretty sure Janet was going to die at some point, due to very vague hints that had been dropped. Plus, she's barely been in this season.
And honestly with a storyline like this, I expect people to die. Frankly, the desire of the actors to remain employed is the only reason they've lived this long. (I don't count Daniel's death. First of all, he dies more than Jean Grey. Second of all, Michael Shanks was still around a lot in season 6.)
IT'S HOW THEY FREAKING TOLD IT!!
The part where we don't know for a long time who died? That we see them grieving and trying to cope before we know who died?
I actually like that. I think that part was well done.
IT'S THE PART WHERE HER DEATH IS ALL ABOUT THE CHARACTER GROWTH OF SOME STUPID REPORTER GUEST STAR!!!
Seriously.
If the focus had been on all or one of SG-1, or Hammond, or the man whose life she was saving as she died, I wouldn't mind. It would make sense. Because then it would be about about what she meant for them, about how her death meant his life, about how she, personally, changed and affected their lives. It would still be ABOUT JANET, but through their eyes.
But when it's all about some guy who interviewed her once and then had lunch with her? Then you're making it meaningless.
No, I don't care if you made it out to be about how she was willing to lay down her life for others every day.
YOU MADE HER DEATH BE ALL ABOUT SOMEONE WHO DID NOT KNOW HER, AND WHOSE LIFE SHE HAD NO IMPACT ON!
In other words, YOU BASICALLY MADE HER IRRELEVANT!
I mean...the stuff with Carter and Daniel grieving? Excellent(and I think Amanda Tapping was bemoaning working with so many strapping men every day and not getting tocheck out those arms get the occasional hug...kinda like Kiera Knightley getting to kiss virtually every moderately attractive man in the POTC trilogy.) The bit with the man she saved naming his daughter after her? Super cliche, but an excellently done scene.
But making the focus of the episode be about someone who barely knew her, who we and she have no connection to?
MAJOR BOO!

The only good out of the episode was Daniel crying in the infirmary and his anger throughout. But dammit. Bregmann sucks ass.

Daniel is making me love him again this season. Around s4-5, he was developing this serious superiority complex that almost made me happy when he was gone.
