SO!
MUCH!
HAPPENED!

Departing almost completely from the plotline of the first three novels, Lindskold heads for more exotic pastures.  During a celebration, Firekeeper, Blind Seer and Derian are abducted.  Waking up caged in a ship, they find themselves bound for an exotic land as "honored guests," and soon learn that they-or rather, Firekeeper's ability to speak to the Noble Beasts have been sold out by their old nemesis, Waln Endbrook.  Arriving at their destination, they find themselves in a land that worships magic, and where the Noble Beasts(they call them something else, but I'm not going to try to spell it) are treated as holy creatures.  But are they there of their own free will, or is it another form of slavery?  What affect will this have on Firekeeper and Blind Seer's relationship? What about the legends of beasts in human form, and firekeeper's own views about her nature?  And will Derian finally meet a girl not named Firekeeper or Elise who doesn't drop him like a hot potato?

SPOILERY EXCLAMATIONS!

HYBRID RACES!

BLIND SEER AND FIRE KEEPER GETTING WOLF SUITORS!

BLIND SEER DUELING FOR FIREKEEPER'S HEART!  (Ok, no question there who it belongs to, BUT HE DUELED FOR HER!)

FIREKEEPER'S ORIGIN!

LOTS AND LOTS OF NOBLE BEASTS!  AND MYTHOLOGY ABOUT THEM!  AND THE HYBRIDS!

Also, Derian finally gets a girl for more than five minutes and who isn't Firekeeper or Elise, but still gets dumped.  I think it kinda sucks to be young and in love in this world.  You always fall for someone of another species, an untouchable social status, or who is otherwise out of bounds.

All young love in this world is forbidden.

This is such a completely awesome book. Especially the "Who cares what species you are? I like you." hitting-on.

Oh man...yes. And I loved how Derian(100% unaware that his own love life was about to die) was all "Oh, yeah, this bit surpasses species...it's a compliment, really. Uh...don't interfere, our male egos are fragile during these things." I wish Derian were more interesting...how does he consistently remain likable, but the least interesting human character around, no matter who else is around?

BTW, I understand book 6 is the last?

It's a mystery. Possibly because this is one of those serieses that read almost like they're written by someone with ADD -- "so character A and B are having a romance -- okay, let's go to a different town where characters R-Z are having trouble with the settlement . . . " and Derian is hanging around Firekeeper while tangent plotlines go on around him.

Hrm . . . I keep losing track of what the book numbers are; I mainlined the first few and they kinda blurred together. But there's two after this, and that's the end: Wolf Hunting and Wolf's Blood.
