Gojyo's twin facial scars came from that last incident when his stepmom went totally over the edge and was seriously trying to kill him, rather than just beat him to a pulp. The red-flowers incident did involve a pretty serious-looking beating, but since it's pretty hard to find any scenes with chibi-Gojyo where he isn't sporting bruises or bandages, it seems to have been par for the course.
