I may be conflating the two as far as my ultimate feelings about Rei and my Ran/Rei shippiness. I think he was better in the manga -- I think he does change in the manga and the ending feels better and more right for everyone, but Rei was better with Ran, too, because she would make him shut up and really listen, and he took her seriously.

And I love Tatsukichi... I do, but my Ran/Rei shippiness -- cannot... control... eeeeet!

Anyway, I loved the manga and recommend it.
