Am I the only one who does NOT see SDK!Akira in this icon, but...uhm...some anime character or other?

I don't know the character in question so I can't give you a definite yes or no. I will tell you what I see though - a blond guy wearing a white outfit with a blue collar. The whole pic is filtered blue. This fellow looks a bit older than the one in the Aethereality pic.

I've had experience with LJ failing to show an avatar at all but I don't recall it mixing up any of my avatars with each other or someone else's avatars.

ETA: OK. This is weird. Refreshing your page caused a different avatar to show up. One that isn't in your userpics. This one's of a dark haired boy. O_o

Yeah, the dark haired boy isn't mine. (The pic I linked to was from early in the series, when he was drawn a bit younger looking.)

*nods* refreshing this page and your user pics page seems to have a yo-yo affect. I wonder if the problem is with LJ or if it's at the server or site the avatar is hosted on. Have you tried uploading it directly to LJ instead of linking to a pic somewhere else?

Ah. Then it's definitely yet another issue with LJ's image hosting. The galleries are full of bugs too. Argh.
