So, I'm watching Saiyuki Reload: Gunlock.  Ok, first of all, what was the animation budget for this? $5?  And when did Goku start being 12?

Anyway, I have reached the part where Yaone and Dokugaku save Kougaiji with The Power of Their Love, which may or may not be somewhere around my favorite part of the entire manga.  Stop looking at me like that.

Since I watch the anime mostly for the Kougaijitachi filler, should I watch the whole thing, or just recommended eps?  (Particularly appreciated are "These are not my friends!  They are my subordinates! And we are enemies! I do not-YAONE!  Stop talking to Hakkai! LIRIN! Get off his shoulders!" moments, because we like watching our High Strung Emotastic Woobie Prince try to be a cool villain and fabulously fail at it.  Yes, yes we do.  We await the day Hakkai invites them over for tea.)  And when is the three-armed Goku moment?  Or have I missed it?

ETA:  Wait!  Was it a three armed Goku, or everyone looking like monkeys?  I forget.

I already watched Gunlock so you don't have to. Go to my Engrish tag (http://telophase.livejournal.com/tag/engrish) and scroll past the Wolf's Rain episodes to get to the Gunlock reports.

I only ever watched two or three episodes of Gunlock. To me it looked like they had a slightly bigger budget than the first series, but much less creative direction, and everything just looked like... crap. The first series had a certain quaint charm to its low budget look. The third. Not so much.

Tell me more...

I need to watch Gunlock (never got around to it) ASAP, now.

Take what I say with a grain of salt, but if it's just mindless entertainment you're after, Gunlock is worth watching up until DVD volume 6. Volume 7 from episode 24 onward is just pure baloney that has absolutely nothing to do with the manga. Kou's gang appears but all they get to do is sit back and watch the circus. Volume 6 is fun mostly for watching Sanzo survive getting shot 13 times. ^_~ He gets shot 2 more times in volume 7 but, you know, it becomes less fascinating by then. The last time Kou's gang get to do anything is Vol. 5.

I don't remember a three-armed Goku bit (tho' I might have repressed the memory in self-defense), but there are definitely scenes where drawing the ikkou like monkeys would be an *improvement*. And there's an infamous bit with a three-armed Gat (holding Doku off the ground with one hand, holding his pistol with another, and reloading with a third).

Also, are you watching the sub? Make sure to watch at least one of the Hazel episodes in the English dub just so you can experience the full horror of his accent.
