your experience is why I have my friend Kimmi change my oil whenever I can. Or at least have her with me when I have to take it some place because the second they start talking down to us she whips out her big old brain of knowledge and out car smarts them (or it turns into a long 'who is smarter' war that I am forced to endure).
re: Alex Archer books...they are a hit or miss serial series. The first one 'Destiny' is pretty much a must if you are gonna read the series, but after that you can either read them or ignore them as you like. Not much chronological order to them either (that I can discern). Usually if you can read the first chapter without flinching and burning the book you're set for the rest of it. With a rotating staff of now...3 or 4 authors the style often sways back and forth, though the newest author I know of is Michelle Hauf, and is the only female writer I know of.
re: The Hidden Worlds. I really enjoyed this book (the sequel 'Cold Minds' is packed away to read once I unpack), but some of it can get stomach clenching. Rape, incest, m/m scenes (innuendo, talk, action) and some violence (plus some very sexist men...well I guess xenophobic is almost a better term...) may or may not offend. The World Building is solid however and the main two chars are pretty awesome. More Sci-Fi then I expected from the cover image. If you read the first one and enjoy it you pretty much have to read the second one (or not know what happens with certain plot threads, relationships and characters).
