Seimaden Vol 4

Like with Angel Sanctuary, 99% of my opinions could never be as entertaining as recounting what happens.

Heeey…Tetius actually did things besides fawn over Laures, plot to kill Hilda, and pretend he isn’t Zadie’s uke! Ok, he still did plenty of all that, but he was much better at it! Between his giving Zadie a poisoned earring, pretending to take Cheryl hostage, and his apparently turning the entire castle into a giant living plant that wants to eat Hilda and Roddrick, I may have actually liked him in this volume.

Though I feel compelled to point out that this is I think the third time in four volumes that I’ve needed to ask if Zadie raped him…

Tetius also uses feathers as dart weapons! That’s kinda awesome. And competently fights with a sword while flying.

The sadistic lord still has Laures in a cage. His clothes are artistically tattered to compensate for the lack of clinging to Hilda’s hands through golden cage bars. But that’s ok. Said lord then decides that setting Laures on fire is the proper way to appreciate his beauty. Funny how that miraculously lets demon lords escape so they can run off to find their reincarnated girlfriend before said girl starts liking the nicer guy.

Cheryl throws herself in front of Tetius as Roddrick is about to kill him. This means love. Then she throws herself out the window so she can’t be used against Hilda. This also means love. That’s ok, she’s young. Then she somehow gets turned into the soul of the giant evil plant that takes over the castle. I can’t tell if Tetius somehow did this deliberately to try to save her, or if it was just a happy coincidence of where she landed. Well, not so happy, as the evil plant makes her try to kill Hilda, only to be killed by Laures. At least her ghost gets to kiss Tetius after the bit with Zadie?

Hilda and Roddrick learn they’re in a Higuri You manga when Hilda wonders just how Tetius loves Laures. Then Laures decides to nibble of Roddrick’s ear to freak him out. I’m not sure he’s recovered yet. Zadie forgets this is shoujo, not shounen, and rants about how the only guy to ever beat him shouldn’t be locked up in a cage for some girl. Zadie, why do you think I’m reading this, anyway? That and the cage bars clinging and tortured Laures collapsing on Hilda and such. I read Higuri You for very specific reasons, and they aren’t shounen rival reasons.
