 Because this TV season hasn't been awful enough to actresses already, they just announced that if Castle gets a 9th season, Nathan Fillon will be in it, but Stana Katic and Tamala Jones won't. According to Jon Huertas, they didn't even bother to tell the rest of the cast before making the announcement (hopefully they bothered to tell the actresses beforehand, but Hollywood doesn't exactly have a good track record there) and no one has contacted him yet about season 9, if it comes to pass.

I mean, I don't know if they plan to kill off half the cast in a shootout or have Castle on the run next season or not, but I don't see how they could think this was a good idea.

Tumblr has a theory that female lead's in Star Wars movies are traumatizing studio execs so they're trying to make up for it with TV getting rid of them.

I don't watch Castle, but the reports I saw said Stana Katic wanted to leave? I don't know, all the gifs on tumblr I've seen over the years led me to believe Kate was the center of the show. Then again, *points to icon*.

Everything I've seen says they never even approached her about it, so whether or not she WANTED to leave isn't something she was asked.

And yeah, she pretty much is the plot.

I can't even imagine how it's going to work. ("Work".) I wandered off from Castle a couple years ago, but GAH. This is horrible.

Castle is like Bones where I had enough existing attachment to characters to hang around once it stopped being good. Too bad Castle is apparently firing half of them.

I've never really watched the show but from what I've picked up through friends/fandom, it seems like most people were there for Beckett and Castle/Beckett so I don't know what they're thinking with this move. If they needed to save money that badly, they should've just done a shortened final season to wrap everything up. That's not even getting into how utterly unfair it is to the actresses. But after the nonsense other shows have pulled this year, I can't say I'm surprised.
