Star Wars Rebels finale

Since it was announced that season 4 of Star Wars Rebels would be the last season, I’ve thought a lot about how, if there was going to be a 3rd animated series (4th if you include Freemaker Adventures, but I’m forced to concede that nothing in it is considered official canon) they probably wouldn’t even hint at what it would be about until after Episode IX comes out, but then it seems that they went ahead a set up the next series in the finale.

But would it be a series about Sabine and Ahsoka looking for Ezra, or would it be set sometime later (with Jason/Jacen/whatever as the lead) with that as a secondary plot point? Now that the kid has been introduced, I do hope filoni has a plan for him that does not include either being murdered by Kylo Ren or joining the Knights of Ren. Being off somewhere with aunties Sabine and Ahsoka would be a good way to avoid that. And why is that kid so pale skinned when his mother is green and his father is brown? I don’t really mind that he looks more human than Twi’lek/Human hybrid children we saw before-especially since, if they do plan to make the next series be about him, it’s probably-and sadly-easier to sell that with a human looking protagonist, but he shouldn’t be that lightskinned.

Random stuff:

And did Kanan and Hera sneak off into a supply closet for some hanky panky while he was rescuing her or what? The first seasons, you could have interpreted their relationship as their being together and doing the deed plenty, but with no hints onscreen due to this supposedly being a kids show, but season 4 pretty firmly established that that wasn’t the case. Ah well. Maybe he’s another Force baby, but with actual DNA being used for the father instead of the Force faking it like with Anakin.

I know some people hate Filoni’s thing about fore animals, but I kind of love them. Less so the space octopi, but I did like how they were utilized in the finale.

The idea of Ezra becoming a Force guardian of Lothal-wolf or otherwise-grew on me this season, but I’ll take this fate, too. (Except, I mean, he basically catapulted himself off into deep space with Thrawn and a whole bunch of imperial officers and storm troopers who are going to really really hate him now. Thankfully, the kid is kind of like a cockroach when it comes to dying.) I ended up a lot fonder of him than expected to be when the series started.

That was kind of a let down ending for Gregor, but at least Rex is around after the Battle of Endor.

I think Steve Blum commented that his ideal ending for Zeb was getting together with Kallus and taking him home to meet the family. I don’t know if he was serious or joking about that (or both), but the show certainly seems to have gotten as close to that as they could get away with on a Disney show supposedly for kids.

Thrawn’s appreciation for Sabine’s art always pleases me for some reason. Honestly, if Kanan and Ezra weren’t Jedi, Thrawn probably would have ignored them completely and given Hera and Sabine the entirety of his attention.
