(no subject)

Went to get my hair cut on Saturday to even out the ends (context: at that point in time it was a few inches past my waist) b/c I keep it long and it doesn't grow completely evenly.  I told them "between an inch and whatever it takes to even it out" expecting somewhere between my waist and elbows.  She didn't show me my hair after and I didn't worry about it much but later realized that she had cut barely an inch off the very end, and no where near even.  This morning I called to let them know I'd be coming in and everything seemed fine to get it fixed.  I got there and there were 2 people.  Don't know the man's name but I know he's been there several years, and he made it clear he thought I just gave bad instructions and was trying to get it fixed free.  So I was not thrilled but ok, as long as it gets fixed.  I made it as clear as I could that I just thought it was a misunderstanding.  The only other person there was the woman who cut my hair Saturday.  He showed her where to cut it to and it was, as expected, around elbow length. She started cutting my hair and I could tell it was shorter than he said but I assumed it was only a bit, and it's not like you can do anything once they start.  She dropped both the scissors and her comb, commenting that she kept doing that today.

By the time she worked her way around to the front, I could tell it was even shorter than I thought.  Her hands were also trembling.  Want thrills and chills?  Have open scissors being held by a trembling hand a few inches from your neck  while your feet are six inches from the ground.  Anyway at the end I went in with hair a few inches past my waist and, not by choice, ended up with hair only a couple inches past my shoulders.  As I was about to have a meltdown, and was about to have to drive,   I just left as fast as I could, hoping I could hold the meltdown in long enough to get lunch for 3 people and drive back to work.  A benefit to working for your parents is you can cry in the bathroom if needed.  My mother saw I was back and went "how did it-OOOOOOOOOOOH!" and when I dumped my purse at my desk my coworker did the same (but with a gasp instead of "OOOOOOOOOOOOOH!"  Anyway I had my cry in the bathroom and ate my lunch and was theoretically calm enough to deal with it. I called the corporate office so they could direct me wherever since, for obvious reasons, I didn't really want any contact with anyone at that particular franchise at the time.  As I got the to end the typing stopped and there was dead silence b/c the guy couldn't figure out how to reply beyond "I'm so sorry."  Anyway now I'm waiting for the local store owner to call me back.  (I have a suspicion that it was the woman who came in near the end and shot a couple confused looks our way but didn't say anything.)

People who have known me for a long time know that this is the third time I’ve ended up with my hair cut much shorter than I wanted, but this is by far the worst.  The first was someone who was just clearly a bad stylist and not only cut it to short, but did so unevenly, and the day before a trip.  (Thankfully the friend I was staying with in Fort Worth set up and appointment for me with her stylist the next afternoon and he fixed it for free.)  The other was at the local commercial college, where at least there they’re still learning, so you know there’s a chance for error.  This was TWO TRIPS with someone else showing EXACTLY where to cut it.

My hair hasn’t been this short since I was 18, which was 20 years ago and cut that short deliberately b/c I was going to England and had just graduated high school.
