And now I give you...80s(and not so 80s) fantasy bad fic!

*dusts off her WHAT-fic icon*

Ah, chibi Akira and Hotaru, it's been so long since you saw daylight...

And in today's contribution to  my continueing obsession: a quick look at fantasy movie badfic!  Very quickly each...

First up, Labyrinth.

As is to be expected, there are endless fics that feature Jareth pining away after Sarah, and ditto for Sarah deciding she screwed up and heading back tothe labyrinth.  There are, of course, many who seem to believe that Jareth will fall for any girl in the labyrinth and dropkick their Mary Sue's into his throneroom.

There's also this:

"Yrs after the Labyrinth Sar has forced aside memories of Jareth.Yet Jade Sar's daughter becomes fascinated by the world of Labyrinth so what ties does a newly 18yrold girl have to do with sibling rivalries a thurst 4power only time can tell it wont go wel"

Which I think is basically making Sarah's daughter the token Mary Sue...

And of course, the kdrama version:

"There is never forever. Two years after Sarah defeats the Labyrinth, she is diagnosed with cancer and, on her deathbed, wishes to see the Goblin King one more time to tell him the things she desperately needs him to know."

This, however, is my favorite:

"A Devoted Bowie fan Is alone in the world when she subconciously wishes herself away. Jareth takes her as his guest but There is something Clara didnt expect. Jareth is Married to Sarah. Will there be Jelousy Or friendship?"

Next up we have Legend.  Now, Legend doesn't have a whole lot of fanfic at fanfiction.net(nothing like Labyrinth's 3000+) but it has a few.  Most of them seem to focus on the idea that Jack and Lily have daughters(what?  They can't have any boys?) and Darkness returns and  targets their daughter.  This actually makes sense in canon, butthen there are the Dakness/Lily shippers, and that is a scary, scary concept, a few people who seem to think Lily dumps Jack five minutes later(and their Mary Sues will heal his poor heart moments later.)

Though there's always the option of having your Mary Sue replace Lily:

"Lily and Jack have had their adventure and now Darkness seeks revenge, but in an attempt to find Lily, he mistakenly discovers Lily's twin sister. Juliette, the younger twin, is unaware of her sisters dealings with the demon but gets drawn into the arms"

Next up is Dragonheart, with more than Legend, but, of course, nothing resembling Labyrinth(ok, it's 90s, not 80s, so sue me...I HAD to look and share..)  This was actually quite the adventure...so much more variety...

Ok, seriously, yes, Eragon is the big dragon thing these days, but why m,ust so very many be Eragon crossovers and referrenced?  DO NOT SOIL BOWEN WITH WHINY BOY COMPARISONS!!!!(ok, Bowen can whine too, but at least he has decent reasons...and is a far superior character anyway)

And...so very, very many girls travelling back to medieval times and meeting a disenchanted knight...

And then there's the oh-so-clearly "inspired by":

"While on a field trip, four teens are swept away to a time when kings ruled the lands, knights fought with honour and great evil lurks just around the corner. There's even a dragon whom the four feel a very strong connection to, but what are they doing th"

Would-be-bestiality:

"Kara thinks about her feelings for the dragon she loves in this short little poem."

Of-page bestiality:

"When a mysterious woman only known as "Catherine" shows up in a small village, about to bear a child, the whole village is upset by what it is. A Half- human Half- dragon thing that shouldn't even exist. But what will happen to such a child? How will h"

Rewriting a movie scene, maybe?

"After Bowen and Draco's little ruse, Bowen returns to find the Draco didn't eat Kara, and that they might have visitors. Summary is pretty bad, so just read the story...... please? this is a one timer thing, only this, no more."

HOW I ask? HOW??

"Kara bore both their children: The daughter of Einon, and the son of Bowen."

And, while Willow (probably for the best) and Ladyhawke seem to have no fanfic love, Princess Bride could never be forgotten...

My mind screams in rage for the first half then boggles with the wording forthe second half:

"My first fan fic ever. Buttercup and Wesltey marry, and are happy, until the dread Prince Humperdinck stabs Wesltey in the heart. Buttercup abandons her life and happiness. Ingio may just happen to bring it back with Fezzik's baby and news about Westley!"

MARY SUES!!!

"Waverly is sick of her parents' constant mushy 'true love'. She wants to get out and have an adventure of her own! But when she is kidnapped and Westley sets off after her, she realizes just how much she really had. Humor on the way! "

"Buttercup's sister becomes the next Dread priate, o the horror, o the horror. chaos, disorder and Flying Watermellons insue! i know i'm bad at summaries but o well chapter two is up so R&R"

(oh, according to fanfic, Buttercup has many sisters...)

ALTERNASHIPS!

"This a story about how inigo and Buttercup get together, therefor crashing Wesley's perfect fairytale."

Also, Count Rugen and Vizzini have more children than Buttercup has sisters:

"Humperdink seeks his runaway bride, Westley and Buttercup seek a peaceful new life, Inigo and Fezzik seek to become Pirate Kings, but these plans are thwarted by Amalia Count Ruegen's Daughter"

Inconceivable: The Story of Vizzini's Daughter "Never go against a Sicilian when DEATH is on the line."

Oh, and there is much slash, of course.

On a final note, interestingly, most of the Mirrormask fic seems to revolve around Valentine and Helena after the end of the movie...I'm not quite sure my brain can process the idea of fanfom actually pondering something in canon and it's possibilities more than ignoring canon and/or letting their fantasies run wild regardless of logic and/or canon.

ETA:  Also,  why all the Harry Potter crossovers?  I swear, everything n exisance gets HP crossovers these days...

[identity profile] ipperne.livejournal.com 2007-09-01 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
why crossover at all? It's like the weirdest concept ever. Especially because the writers seem to always pic the most different universes to crash...

btw; Ladyhawke do have a little fanfic love over at aff... In case you needed more ammonition for your posts^^

i dont understand crossoverfic at all myself
what aff?

Right. I have a friend who is such a fan she can go for hours just talking about HP and references to HP that if we talk about anime, books, movies or comics HP is still there because she is so into her ship like if one character has red hair and all that. She is so enthusiastic I don't have the heart to tell her "Here we go again." It's just that HP is duh to me. I still don't get all the hype when there are so much better fantasy stories out there.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2007-09-01 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
heh...what's her 'ship?

HP is good and I like it, but the hype and obsessions are something I've never understood.

[identity profile] akosikae.livejournal.com 2007-09-02 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
Draco+Ginny. She got me to read a fanfic with said ship and it was okay just because of the cold and mean demeanor that is Draco and hot-tempered Ginny and I usually fall for these types. Not too much though.

OT: I'm watching Coffee Prince and some scenes I feel weird and it's funny at the same time because I know Eun Hye's character is a girl pretending to be a guy, but when Eun Chan and Han Kyul get together and have their moments it feels like watching 2 guys which are both sweet.

The unofficial rule is that your fandom isn't a fandom unless it's been crossed over with Harry Potter.

Either way, my crossovers always tend to be utter crack.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2007-09-01 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I unofficially wish all my fandoms weren't fandoms.

Some of it, such as Fables, Stardust or Labyrinth, which are all some variation of "high fantasy world alongside our of" I could understand because of the common theme w/ HP, but mostly...

And crackfic is awhole other thing entirely...

[identity profile] fairest1.livejournal.com 2007-09-01 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yes. Sometimes, you feel like reading stories that the author would never write, introspective bits or fun shippiness or utter crack or what have you. But then when you actually look at the fandom, it's more like "AGH MY BRAIN" or "The stupid! It burns!"

Care Bears cross easily with any fandom, as they canonically just randomly show up and help people and try to teach them to share or something.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2007-09-01 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Short crackfics are actually about all i can make it through, really.

That is concerningly accurate about carebears...

[identity profile] fairest1.livejournal.com 2007-09-01 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I really need to get around to finishing that second HP/Care Bears crackfic I've had in the works for months . . . they're way too easy, I have to say. Just make sure the characters from the other fandom are suitably freaked out about the situation and it's gold.

[identity profile] magicnoire.livejournal.com 2007-09-01 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, crossovers. I think the only crossover fics I've ever read that truly work for me are xxxHOLic/other fandom because switching dimensions is CANON in xxxHOLiC what with Yuuko being the space/time witch. (I guess you could also do Tsubasa but I'm prejudiced against Tsubasa.)

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2007-09-01 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
heh...I could never really get into either of those...I think because of that...Tsubasa especially just seemed an excuse to play with every canon Clamp had,
