Jo and Dean from Supernatural.  They are my "could have been were it not for rabid fangirls" ship.  The text is from one of  their conversations.

2.

Magatsu from Blade of the Immortal.  Favorite manga character.  Trumps all anime characters too.  This is of a surprisingly relaxed chibi version of him, I use it largely when I find an excuse to plug something into a conversation, or to ask questions or for help.

3.

Donnie Yen in Seven Swords.  I confess, I just liked the pic.  I tend to use it when I make a post when I'm tired, or if it somehow applies to a conversation, though that isn't often.

4.

From the jdrama Liar Game.  Largely another one that I just like, and the text(which suits the relationship-he's a swindler and she went to him for help but he rejected her, then reconsidered when she A) wouldn't give up, and B) showed that she'd get hopelessly tangled up the second he took his eyes off her) often applies to various ship conversations, especially if the other person is familiar with doramas.

5.

Night Thrasher from New Warriors.  Largely used for comic book posts.  The original Night Thrasher is a favorite of mine, but it's unknown if the current one is the same guy.  I also think the cropping and the way his head is turned makes it suitable for suspicious/uncertain/wary stuff.  Or even displeased.

6.

Coffin Guy from Death Trance.  Another one where I largely just like the picture, but it's good for actiony/fighting/sword/bad ass posts and comments.

7.

TV-version of Harry Dresden from Dresden Files.  Largely a reading icon from one of my favorite book series and short lived TV series.  The text refers to the fact that the TV version of Murphy is a brunette, and the book version is a blonde.

It's going to be hard to discuss this without spoiling the last fourth of SDK ... but let's just say that the innocent-seeming Kyoushirou has done some terrible things in his time, and all of it was due to misplaced loyalties and the pressures put on him by some extremely ruthless people. The image is a hand-colored pic that was on the late lamented SDKPOWAAA French fan site, and the quote is from the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. In full: "The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ, / Moves on: nor all your Piety nor Wit / Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line, / Nor all your Tears wash out a Word of it." In other words, what's done is done, and no amoount of tears will roll back time to reverse it. I use this for posts about things that made me truly miserable.

Diana Wynne Jones is a favorite fantasy writer, and I made this icon for use on the LJ Diana Wynne Jones community. Calcifer is a fire demon, trapped by the wizard Howl to power the Moving Castle. Although he can be forced to do domestic duty (such as heating pots and pans), he retains his essential wildness.

All the Saiyuki guys are "broken" in some way. In Gojyo, I see my own need for affection and acceptance, my own childhood (mine wasn't quite as bad or as weird as his), and my own love of the small and helpless and hatred for seeing them suffer. His red hair and eyes are a constant reminder to him of his halfbreed human/demon heritage. The words say "red" in 4 languages (English, Spanish, Russian, Japanese). I usually use this when discussing the angsty side of Gojyo's character.

I have been having some tough times, and manga has given me a wonderful outlet. I usually use this when posting a shounen or seinen manga review on my LJ. I'm proud of how it came out, artistically. Oda Nobunaga, based on an actual figure from Japanese history, plays a really wild role in SDK.

I needed an icon to express complete outrage. Although Manji loves to fight, he doesn't get really PO'ed that often. It's not good when he does. I don't actually use the icon that often because the person to whom I'm replying might misinterpret it.

Gojyo's "adventuring clothes" in the original Saiyuki series were utterly ridiculous. My daughter remarked that they reminded her of what happens when little kids dress themselves ... and an icon was born. I use this in humrous discussions about Saiyuki or when discussing Gojyo's (horrible) childhood.

This is a case of liking an icon so much that I had to add it, even though I haven't had much use for it ... I guess I'll use it when I blog BotI sometime. Mugatsu has a very strong ethical compass even though he lives in a very rough world, and I admire that. He won't allow his admiration or loyalty for anyone force him to do something he feels is wrong.
