The unsightly growth(to be kind about it) is GONE.  But it got longer and furrier before it went away.  That is the scary part. 

But why is Daniel suddenly all buff and scruffy?  And why did Carter chop all her pretty hair off?  And how in love with the time loop episode am I?

Sam's hair is gone because the longer hair wasn't regulation, for the AF. If she'd had it yanked back, it would have been fine. But she always had it down.

Supposedly, there's always been an AF consultant attached to the show. Occasionally, I have my doubts.
