See, this is the closest Bleach has ever come to canon romance that wasn't simply more implied as feelings towards somebody as actual ..actions, I guess. And that, and the pairing of choice, sort of pissed me off. Like, WTF, why now?! Why all of the sudden? Before it was all subtext-y and more platonic with a possibility.. I don't know. This scene made me roll my eyes if anything.
Orihime/Ichigo is just like my least favourite canon pairing possibility.
I've always seen it as full out crushing on her side, but completely platonic on his side(hence, no shipping), so the scene made sense to me. There does seem to be more to it than feels right in Bleach, but it still makes me wibble.
Actually, I half wonder if Tite Kubo was told to put something canon in there.
That would be curious.. I don't read much shonen but I guess those also need their obligatory romances. So maybe he thought, "Who would people want to see most with Ichigo? Orihime maybe? Um, why not!"

Posibly. Most shonen has canon pairings, either major or background(or both.) In this case, though, it may just be because Orihime's crush on Ichigo has been made blatantly apparent at various times(though mostly early on) and no other crushing or liking has been as canon. I'll be rather annoyed, though, if Ichigo suddenly starts acting like they're a thing, as he'sd never shown that kind of interest in her before(or in anyone, really.)
This icon is largely spawned by the fact that only extras died throughout the entire Soul Society storyline despite multiple skewerings, and the Rukia one I've been using a lot lately is because she always looks normal sized, until drawn next to Ichigo, Renji or Byakuya, when she looks like a midget.
I wonder if somebody will honest to god just DIE in the new arc.. I somehow doubt anybody will. Bleach seems to have a track record of nobody dying, EVER (except pre-canon like Ichigo's mom or Rukia's real bro).
Probably not. It's actually normal for shonen of Bleach's variety, though most do at least kill off a few more mentors, extras and villains. (Bleach has offed a few of those varieties)
Ah this is the part that VJ was talking about. Thank you for posting it. Still loyal to the Rukia/Ichigo ship, but seems like their scenes are so buddy-buddy.
Heh. I've never really seen any of that kind of personal interest for each other from Ichigo or Rukia at all. Actually, I don't think either one is really interested in anyone. Like...this scene caused wibbling, but not shipping, because Ichigo's never seemed interested in Orihime(or anyone) as more than a friend.
