art: xXxHoLic

In my last xXxHoLic(someone will have to explain that title to me one day...) post, I meantioned liking the art a lot, so I bring examples.  These pics are almost completely random, as opposed to scenes, like I usually post.

A few pages w/ Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles characters to show what I mean about it feeling odd when they show up:

xxx is a placeholder. HOLiC refers to the various addictions the characters have.

...I can't believe I know this.

ah. makes perfect sense, really...

Yeah, so when you say the title out loud, you only actually say "Holic" because "xxx" is silent. Oh CLAMP, why must you make things so complicated?

I still call it 'triple x holic', and I know this.

I love the coloured little pics inside the manga. You only get a few, but they're so wonderful! :)

I love this style - so gorgeously detailed. I also have a thing for butterfly patterns..

well, this manga does love its butterflies. actually, it just likes imagery. if you look at some of my other manga scans posts, you'll notice the style is very different...most manga uses lots of shading to indicate colors and depth, but xXxHoLic uses stark black and white and rarely has shading at all, and the art has far, far fewer lines than most manga art (if you look at the pics w/ tsubasa characters, you can tell that the characters are drawn in a very different style)

I've never read an explanation for the title but I've always believed it a reference to the Holism school/s of thought --gestalt, emergence, butterfly effect, everything is connected and the whole is bigger than the sum of its parts, etc. -- particularly in light of hitzuzen and Haruka's mention of Zhuāng Zhōu's butterfly dream.

This looks interesting. Especially jhinni-girl.

*knows nothing about this title.*

It can be frustrating at times, but it's good. I probably explained the plot in one of my posts...maybe.

The art is beautiful. I should look into reading this manga...

yes, you should
