Anyone wanna rec Ergo Proxy?

Or warn me away, whichever is more accurate.

Plot Summary: In a future where the world has been ravaged by a nuclear apocalyse, there exists salvation in a domed city named "Romdeau", where humans and their android servants, the autoreivs, live in. Under the implementation of complete management control, it is a paradise where feelings are literally discarded, and the governing council dictates the way of life the citizens should live. But this utopian landscape is soon broken by a series of mystifying murders. Real Mayar, a female inspector from the Citizen Information Bureau, along with her autoreiv partner Iggy, are tasked to solve the murder cases. She is soon attacked by a creature drawn to her which is neither human nor android, and learns about the mysterious phenomena called "Awakening", an event which draws her further into the case...and to the world beyond the limits of Romdeau.

ETA:  It has been compared to Witch Hunter Robin.  About all I need.

It's very brainy :) very dark, visual-wise, but also enjoyable. Some of the characters and episodes may be hit-and-miss, though almost everyone agrees that Pino is adorable. do give it a try, at least until episode 5 or 6.

Sorry, got ahead of myself. Pino is one of the characters in Ergo Proxy. Anyway, I recommend it.

I LOVED it, but I know many some people found it pretentious (I read a couple things here and there; many overstates the case). If you liked Witch Hunter Robin, you'll probably like Ergo Proxy.

I wanted to marry Witch Hunter Robin when I first saw it. We still like to get together and reminisce.

Actually, EP caught my attention because t sound a bit like wHR and GITS: SAC.

Oh, then, watch EP forthwith! It's fantastic. I need to requeue it on Netflix as I watched as it came out so there were loooong gaps between discs, and I'm sure I forgot important details. Gorgeous design, great characters (Pino is a child-like autoreiv), and my favorite opening theme song of any anime... except maybe Gankutsuou... ties with that. Yes. (Please note Re-L icon)

Let me know what you think of it! I was scared off by how pretentious everyone was making it sound.

Is it the same ones that said 12 kingdoms was like fushigi yugi or witch hunter robin was boring?

i ignore claims that something is pretentious, brilliant, touching, beautiful. etc(though i still use the same words myself) because i often find that people had either that opinion or the direct opposite opinion going in.

In this case? Actually, no.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2007-12-01 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
ah.

well, there goes that way of automatically dismissing criticism.

it has been directly compared to WHR for me, though, by someone else who has similar tastes to mine, so we'll see.

The first 6 episodes has been sitting on my shelf for a while only because I haven't had the time to watch it. The dvd belongs to my brother's girlfriend, who swears it's good.

Huh. I watched maybe 13 or 14 and just kind of stopped. Everyone in your comments seems to say watch 5 or 6 and then you'll keep going. I wonder what happened to me.
