Ian's tattoos and other things

A discussion in one of [personal profile] redbrunja's posts at her LJ turned to tattoos and when they worked and when they didn't, and since [personal profile] smillaraaqand I have been discussing Top Cow's male characters lately, Ian Nottingham and his Hand Tattoo of Mystical Import came up.  Scrounging around my harddrive, I found a few scans with it.  Sadly, none are closeups, but you can still get the general idea.

(one pic borders on NSFW)

There are much better

And hey, since it's a Hand Tattoo of Mystical Import, here's what it's for:

Meanwhile, I did early voting today.  In addition to signs all over the building saying not to take cell phones into the voting area, we were reminded no cell phones when we were given ballots.  A woman two booths down from me took out her cell phone and started talking loudly on it, and then got upset when she was told she couldn't have it out, and said she didn't see why she couldn't if she wasn't talking about voting or politics.  (I don't know about elsewhere, but it's now illegal in Texas to take a cell phone into the voting area.)

Also, I was (as always)  amused by all the state and district categories with only one option.

In other news, there is apparently a fourth season of Slayers coming with an anime-only storyline, but no confirmation yet as to the cast, both characters and voice talent.  Urm...why bother if it doesn't have Lina and Gourry? I can see it working without Zelgadis, Amelia and Xellos-though I'd obviously much rather have them-but you can't have Slayers without Lina, and you need Gourry there to balance her out.  (And since the storyline won't be based on the books, I shall hold out hope for Filia.)

You know... I actually have no idea if we aren't allowed to bring cell phones into the voting area. I mean, there are no signs saying otherwise and no one says anything to us. I know I've brought cell phones in -- just wasn't using them at the time.

From what they said, I gather it's a new thing this year. But, honestly, I passed about 15 of those signs, including a large one on the entrance of the building...

Ah, see here was my problem. I thought Ian and Jackie were the same character. This would account for a great deal of confusion.

And geez, artists, 'roids much? You've made the poor man topheavy. What with the muscles and the massive amount of hair the boy's gonna tip over the minute he tries a roundhouse.

Jackie is the hot playboy mob assassin who likes guns. Ian is the hot british ninja assassin who likes swords. They're both good at things like catching bullets with their hands and winning battles with moving vehicles. (At one point, it was quasi-hinted that they could be related, which would make that one amazing bloodline...)

Ian's bodytype is actually fairly standard for comic book males, esp. for the 90s. For that matter, he fares better than a lot do...

Mmmm, shiny, thank you. The coloring seems a little inconsistent from pic to pic -- is that just artists not paying attention to continuity, or does the blueness and/or glowiness only come into play when it'd doing something mystical?

(And are there ANY characters in this universe who don't have some sort of Giger-esque magic armor thing going on?)

I think it's always supposed to be blue, but brighter/glowy under certain circumstances.

Magdalena has the glowing spear, but no supernatural armor(I think it's leather with metal bits for reinforcement) and relies primarily on smarts and skill in a fight. Ian NORMALLY doesn't have the magic armor thing going...usually, he's of Magdalena's variety. He does have a suit of samurai armor, though.
