As I haven't seen anyone else posting on it yet...

George R.R. Martin's A Dance With Dragons will be out 9/30.

ETA:  Amazon, why did you remove the original listing I was watching and replace it?  IT CREATD UNFAIR EXPECTATIONS!

Possibly more importantly, the third Eragon book will be out 9/20.

Please, I beg of you DO NOT LET ME READ IT!!!  Have I not "taken one for the team" enough with the first 2?  Was not my suffering enough to make me appreciate almost every other fantasy ever written?  In no universe will a supporting character the author doesn't even realize is the only remotely likable charcter in the whole thing be worth the trauma!

YOU HAVEN'T READ TWILIGHT SO I AM NOT SURE YOUR CLAIMS THAT THIS SERIES ARE WORST ARE VALID.

[identity profile] calixa.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
She's got a point.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
I DID NOT SAY IT WAS THE WORST!!!

WORST HIGH FANTASY, PROBABLY!!! TEILIGHT WOULD GET WORST URBAN FANTASY!!!

BUT I CANNOT BELIEVE EDWARD AND BELLA ARE WORSE THAN ERAGON!!!

HIS BROTHER/BEST FRIEND TOLD HIM HE WAS TORTURED INTO GIVING UP INFORMATION, AND ERAGON SCREECHED AT HIM FOR BEING A HORRIBLE TRAITOR!!!

I have not read any of the Eragon books, but the movie was quite possibly the most pathetically derivative tripe I've ever seen. The books — were they merely bad or were they Twilight bad?

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
The movie made him very vaguely likable. It was an improvement. Except for the part where the only decent character was reduced to a cameo.

Twilight bad. Possibly worse.

[identity profile] jessicamee.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
oh my god that third Eragon has taken forever!! i've completely forgotten what was going on.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Eragon was being a prick and getting ready to train his cousin to be just as bad.

And Paoline was trying to make us hate Murtagh, but just making him more sympathetic.

[identity profile] jessicamee.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
lol kay thanks. i might not even read it. or just skip to the end and read the last 3 chapters.

[identity profile] wingstodust.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
... You read Eragon. Not only did you read Eragon, but you read its sequel too. HOW DID YOU SURVIVE?!!?!?!? (Are you secretly a masochist? I do not judge, I merely ask.)

Being a Twilight and Eragon survivor, (Only read the first books. No one could make me read its sequels even if they paid me in GOLD) and looking at the previous comments, I can vouch that, for the first books anyhow, Eragon managaes to be worse than Twilight, believe it or not. *ded*

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
There is, indeed, a contingent that beileves I'm secretly a masochist. Things like Eragon make it hard for me to reject the idea.

Wow. I wasn't sure that was even possible in some horrible alternate universe.

IT IS!! OH, HOW IT IS!!

AMEN TO THAT, SISTER!!

I fear you. I made it all the way through Eragon (book one only), but the urge to smack Bella and Edward was too overwhelming for me to actually finish Twilight. It takes a special kind of stamina to read that much awful YA fic.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I couldn't read more than a page of Twilight. instead, I just read summaries and posts on it and such.

You know, given that Eragon was my first real YA since I WAS pretty young, it's amazing that I ended up reading more YA recently...

[identity profile] wingstodust.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, all I can say in defense is that I read the two a year apart from each other, so the impact was... Less?

And the circumstances were beyond my control. I had to finish reading Eragon because my (now) ex lent it to me, and as for Twilight, I actually bought it on the heavy suggestion and recommendation of my two friends (Nice ppl, but TERRIBLE taste in books. One said that she liked Twilight over Golden Compass. I was appalled, to say the least.) and felt that if I didn't finish it, I'd be wasting my money.

[identity profile] lesbiassparrow.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Don't do it! You will only feel dirty the next morning!

You know, there really needs to be an LJ community for supporting those of us who are trying to shuffle off our addictions to things we hate.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
IT IS AN ILLNESS!!!

I THINK WE SUBCONSCIOUSLY BELIEVE IT WILL HELP US APPRECIATE ANYTHING HALFWAY DECENT MORE!!!

[identity profile] lesbiassparrow.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
But it doesn't work! I just feel bad and wrong and OMG SO BLOODY BITTER.

Don't do it!!!

Life is too short to read bad books!

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I KNOW!!!

EVEN IF I DO READ FAST!

[identity profile] madame-manga.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Gaah... my 15-year-old wanted me to sit down and watch the Eragon movie with him tonight. (He got the DVD as a gift. Not from me.) Ten minutes in, and I had already wandered off to the spare bedroom to fold laundry. I love my children, but there's a limit to every mother's tolerance.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
THE BOYS WATCHED IT AT WORK!! THERE WAS NO ESCAPE FOR ME!!!

BUT IT MANAGED TO BE BETTER THAN THE BOOK! MOSTLY BECAUSE THE ACTOR WAS NATURALLY LIKABLE TO HELP COMPENSATE A BIT FOR HOW UNLIKABLE ERAGON IS!

Don't read more Eragon!

Even my 16-yr-old says it is crap! (She only made it through the first volume.)

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
It's like a compulsion to see if the plot can get worse, the characters more unlikable, and see what he'll try next to make the only moderately likable character hated, only to make him more sympathetic.

[identity profile] nutmeg3.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but I think September is pretty well gone with the wind. He needed to finish the book in June to make that pub date, apparently, and he didn't, so...yeah, more delays. *sigh*

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. It only popped up a couple weeks ago, though. (It had been listed before, then went away, then came back.)

I read the first book and decided to skip the second and third. Looks like I was right to do so.

[identity profile] ilysanth.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
The 9/30 date is wishful thinking on Amazon and BN parts. George says he will post to his LJ and website when the book is finished and it is not done yet. NO way it can be editted and published by then.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-07-15 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
*sigh*

Why did they take the listing down then put it back up?

IT CREATED UNFAIR EXPECTATIONS!

[identity profile] melengro.livejournal.com 2008-07-17 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
This (http://melengro.livejournal.com/173630.html) sums up my thoughts on Paolini nicely.
