Sarah Connor Chronicles: Season 1, ep 2

Hmm...the voiceover was fun in the first episode, but has the potential to get very old, very fast.

This first bit will not make sense to some, but:

BRA'TAC!  BRA'TAC!  *flails a bit*  That was Bra'tac!  With hair.  And then he died, and I was sad.

*End Stargate: SG-1 flail*

Barcoded resistance fighters!  They are an excellent thing to have.  Even if they were all dead.  I'm assuming Missing Fourth Member is also Chainlink Fence Barcode and Tattoo Guy, and that they are also Mid-Season Spoiler Character.

But when Sarah and Cameron went in and they were all dead, was anyone else suspicious of Cameron?  I'm sure we were supposed to initially be suspicious of her, and that learning one of the dead was really a Terminator was supposed to chase the suspicions away, but I'm still not sold on her being good.

And I loved her practicing casual stances with Carlos's (girl?)friend and getting the makeover (though the makeup was totally wrong for Summer Glau) and Sarah's saving the cop from her.  And then when Sarah thre her out the window because her systems were down and John's face was all "But...but...she's a girl!  A cute girl!" and Sarah was "What?  She'll be fine!" and Cameron apparently just knew how she ended up a hood ornament.  And "please remain calm."

I wonder, though, how long Summer Glau can keep it up with the "expressionless robot" bit during all the fight and chase scenes.  Not that I doubt Summer Glau's abilities, but I figure that has to get hard after a while.  (Yes, it worked in the movies, but those were finite and intended to be so, and yes, the Star Treks have had several characters like that, but they weren't action roles.)  She did do just fine with crazy for an extended period, but that's the opposite end of the spectrum.

I was glad to see Enrique back, but not so glad that he was a traitor who was killed off.  And I think I would have liked for Cameron to be wrong.

But Enrique taught John to shoot?  Can we see some evidence of this, please?  Also, I remember 1999.  They had those display screens for demo computers then, too.  I find it hard to believe a hacker raised by a paranoid combat expert who's waiting for the next robot to jump through time and try to kill her kid isn't going to realize what's going on.  Really, show, I appreciate that you don't want to risk this being mistaken for "John Connor, Savior of Mankind" but don't go too far.  (John as written would make more sense if he'd only found out recently.)

I can't really blame him for looking for Charlie, though.  Sarah's clearly raised him to always see his father as a hero, but I suspect Charlie is the only man in her life since Kyle who's ever really fit the "hero" bill, which is probably why she let things proceed as far as engagement.  A bit odd, though, that he didn't seem to notice that John was still 15.  And John's throwing him was, I swear, the first sign of survival skills we've seen in the boy.

HA! Yes, I loved the bit where Sarah just calmly wheels Cameron to the window and chucks her out. AWESOME! (Also, the whole “argument” about the bad boyfriend and Cameron so clearly has absolutely no idea what Sarah is talking was fabulous! I also loved that it showed that Sarah’s smart and thinks on her feet and that everything isn’t solved by beating up people, because then John wouldn’t need a mom, he’d just need Cameron!)

What made the window Chucking great(aside from John's horrified expression) is that she just got up without even wondering what happened. (which is very much a Terminator thing, but...)

I think Cameron's cluelessness is something Sarah was counting on, because her silence gave the effect of her being a petulant teen, which is something Sarah counted on. It shows that Sarah was thinking on her feet even more than the obvious, because she was taking what she knew of Cameron's actions and reactions into account and using them to her advantage, not just hoping Cameron would play along.

I suppose I ought to be watching this, to support a Whedon alum and all of that, but it hasn't really captured my interest much.

You are gonna watch "Dollhouse," yes? Yes yes yes? :)

I'll check Dollhouse out eventually.
