Bleach 321-322, D.Gray-Man 169, Fullmetal Alchemist 86, Tsubasa 193-197, xxxHolic 162-163

Almost couldn't get all that into the title line...

Bleach Ch 321-322: Yumichika: “Oh man oh man I’m dying I’m dy-BWAHAHAHA!” Ukaku: “ETF? He doesn’t laugh in battle!” (Approximation, of course, though it helped make up for the visual scarring.) That was a pretty cool character moment for Yumichika, but couldn’t we have had it without a character design that will no doubt scar me for life? Especially since there is now the threat of my encountering cosplayers if I go to A-Kon next year…

D.Gray-Man Ch 169: Cross is so very not dead. That chess game was weird. And kind of an excuse for Kanda and Allen to show off and look cool, and show that Hitler’s sidekick isn’t that bad. I kind of wish Allen hadn’t stepped in. I want to see what Miranda can do when no one jumps in to save her. And did I just miss Lenalee?

Fullmetal Alchemist Ch 86: LAN FAN IS THE SUPER-SCARY PRESENCE GORILLA GUY DETECTED!! YAY-NESS! Well, who else would it be? Hawkeye and Major General Armstrong are otherwise occupied, and…ok, do we know where Izumi is ATM? And Greed/Ling’s “Oh yeah!” face when he realized who it was before we saw her! And may I just point out that the super alchemist, the homunculus and the chimera were “OH GOD OH GOD WE’RE ALL GONA DIE!!” and the ninja girl with the automail arm saved their manly selves and cute Gluttony into little pieces? In case someone missed it. I hope that blade is retractable, though. It might interfere with someone’s future sex life, otherwise. But Gruman! Betraying Mustang? Actually, I doubt we know completely what he’s up to.

Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle Ch 193-197: She is so obsessed with holding hands! I think she equates it with making out. And I just realized! In an attempt to make the angst of real!Syaoran/Sakura live up to the angst of clone!Syaoran/Sakura, they had her be whisked away before they could even touch. Sadly, I don’t think even that puts the two pairs on equal footing. And Syaoran on Yuuko’s bed was almost as much of a mirror image as Watanuki and Syaoran seeing Yuuko for the first time. Real!Syaoran is such a little and earnest thing. Watanuki is obviously a part of real!Syaoran. Has to be, with all those debts. I hope, though, that they’re getting close to wrapping up the backstory arc.

xxxHolic Ch 162-163: Ok, Yuuko’s top on the cover page of Ch 162? Has to be glued on. And Watanuki giving cooking lessons? His thinking about Yuuko teaching cooking was great. Doumeki may be a picky eater, but now I’m trying to remember if we’ve ever seen Watanuki eat. Most importantly, HIMAWARI MADE AN APPEARANCE. For about a page, but at least Clamp hasn’t forgotten she exists. Because she’s real!Sakura’s soul.

Aw man, am I going to have to read TRC if I ever catch up on xxxHolic? Because I loved the volumes of xxxHolic that I read (about the first six), but could barely stand the volumes of TRC (the first two).

Yeah, pretty much.

You kind of have to be strong with Tsubasa. The first 11 or so volumes range from really bad to pretty good, and then you hit Kurogane's backstory and the good stuff starts. It took me a while to get past "passively enjoy," but i'm pretty fond of it now. It helps that Sakura and Syaoran eventual develop real personalities. I'll never be as fond of it as I am of xxxHolic, but I think it's worthwhile.

I admit I found the first four volumes in the library, read through the first two all the while going, "this is so terrible, why can't I stop reading?" to myself, and actually picked up the third before I realized it was getting late and I should head home.

xxxHolic I just plain adore; I'm not sure why I stopped reading, other than the usual (distraction, blah).
