Ulp.

I just volunteered beta services in about 90 Yuletide fandoms, and pointed out that I wasn't writing any stories betaing would get in the way of writing.

I must be insane.

And then I got sad at all the things I haven't read/watched enough of to be comfortable with offering up beta services.

Meanwhile, I just got spam e-mail with the name of my former pastor as the sender.  Not from him, of course, but it makes me wonder inf the church's e-mail account got hacked or something.

ETA:  Yuletide beta offerings post for anyone who's interested.

ETA 2:  To take the edge off the insanity:  many are single book/movie fandoms, and some were "offered but not requested"  JUST IN CASE.

Holy crap, you crazy person. :D

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
*cries*

It was my guilt at seeing my fandoms, especially ones where no one was taking up the offers.

That, and you people are contagious. (I had to eventually cave in some way on the NaNo/Yuletide front...)

good lord! YOU ARE INSANE

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
If it helps, a lot were single book/movie ones, and some were offered-but-not-requested JUST IN CASE.

[identity profile] mscongeniality.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh, I trimmed the 'offered but not requested' off my list. Now, mind you, I still only offered a third of what you did. ;-)

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not contributing, which helps. (I figure there could still be last second requests.)

[identity profile] mscongeniality.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
The only time I recall any additional requests being added after the close of signups was when some of the early/prolific but 'non-participating' pinch hitters were allowed to submit some requests. I'm not sure exactly how those were handled.

[identity profile] magicnoire.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Last year, the pinch hitters were added to that list of people who hadn't had a story uploaded for them yet, but sorted towards the top so people clicking on the list would see them first.

Ahh...that must be what I'm misremembering. Thank you. :)

You made me sign up!

I feel so bad about forgetting NaNo that I have to do something.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I think that when you have as many NaNo/Yuletide friends, the pressure eventually gets to you AND YOU MUST COMPENSATE!

[identity profile] fivil.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I doubt you'll be super-crowded with requests, and anyway the stories are relatively short (1,000) and a lot of ppl will find betas among their friends.

Too bad you didn't offer what I will be writing - I'll be striving for canonness in terms of characterization since it seems what my recipient wants so you would've been perfect in that regard. :)

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
If it's something I'm at least somewhat familiar with, I can still help. Those are just the ones I feel pretty confident about. (And if it's something you know I've been meaning to watch/read for ages, it could help with incentive to do so.)

[identity profile] fivil.livejournal.com 2008-11-11 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll talk to you about it when I next spot you on MSN. Right now I'm only digesting the fact I'll actually be tackling this fandom this year. For now I'll say you definitely know it, not sure if you'll want to watch/read it all that bad though..

Should be on most of tomorrow.

Good luck!

Would you mind looking over my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fic? I find it really easy to get off track when dealing with this particular fandom, and could use someone to keep the characters in check.

Thank you!

I tend to post to my lj as I write, and have a snippet written already: http://anenko.livejournal.com/205868.html. I'm not sure if it's easier on you to look at the story in pieces or as a finish product. Either way is fine with me.
