Guuuuuuuuuuuys...apparently, Go!Comi's website is gone? I'd noticed that they hadn't released anything new for months, but this seems to imply that they may be over? But my Cantarella! Also, though not always my thing, Go!Comi made me happy by existing, because they mostly put out shoujo different from what other manga publishers were putting out.
Also, I think everyone is following the latest Supernatural wank? Which is, for once, not about the show itself, but about men who preyed on drunk women (and other things) at a con two years ago. If you haven't been following it, here's the unfunny business writeup, and
inkstone digests it here. There have been a lot of responses that can be pretty easily found. My favorite bit of wank is a comment that the roommates of the people who did this don't have any business complaining and have only themselves to blame if they were made uncomfortable by it, because they didn't lay down ground rules pre-con. I kind of thought "don't have a drunken orgy in the room someone else has paid for (jointly or otherwise) and is trying to sleep in without OKing it with them first" kind of fell under "basic understanding of human decency and good manners," not something you had to clarify first. I warn for lots of rape apologists and victim blaming in comments.
I will, though, link to
bookshop 's post on fandom and women(ETA: LJ version of the post, with lots more comments that I haven't had a chance to go through), which does an excellent job of explaining how fiction and fandom and choices in both to reflect on and influence real life.
Also, next time I decide to go to a con for the first time, expect a rape culture wank/explosion.
2008: I decide to go to A-Kon (aka, my first non-teeny-local-con-from-when-I-was-a-teen) and we get Open Source Boob Project. (I'm sure there are still extensive records if you've managed to purge it from your brain.
2010: I decide to go to WisCon for the first time. (Or rather, am in a position to for the first time.) This (which originally happens in 2008) comes out.
I apologize in advance for the next time I decide to attend a con for the first time? I am 99.99% certain I'm just making a very bad, potentially tasteless joke there.

Just steer clear of Dragon*Con 2011actually I would be really glad to meet you there, even though I'm only tentatively planning on going.
