Am I alone in this?

I was wondering(because I had lunch with Mom and ended up with a hamburger because she ordered and didn't know what else they had...but that's ok, I wasn't there for the food) does anyone else just not like beef?  I like hamburger helper ok, and spaghetti sauce and stoganoff(and meatballs for both) but I just don't like beef in general(you'll note that when I do, you can usually barely taste it for the sauces).  I don't care for hamburgers and I don't like steak, steakfingers, brisket, ribs. etc.

If there's ever an option, I prefer chicken or fish(any seafood, really) then ham if they aren't available.  More often than not, when I go to a function where food is provided, I leave still hungry, because the meat is some sort of beef.  Sadly, it's assumed that everyone in Texas likes beef, especially steak and brisket, to bits, so it dominates pretty much everything when it comes to options.  Sometimes I can eat most of my portion out of politeness if it's really, really good(btw, today's hamburger was rather dry, sadly) but usually, if there's no other option, I pick at it, eat the other dishes, and explain that I'm not very hungry.

Does anyone else not care for beef?  Reassure me that I'm not alone...

BTW, for the curious, I got Bones S2.  I may be able to work it so that I can get Supernatural S2 on Friday or Saturday, though.

Honestly, I am not much of a meat eater. I unintentionally will eat everything on my plate that doesn't have meat in it. It's strange.

Hah! I knew you'd buy Bones >.

But not incredibly uncommon, i don't think.

I would probably become a veggie head if it wasn't for...bacon.

[identity profile] kingcrankycat.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Fish and beef are the only meats I'll eat. Turkey, chicken, pork... bleh, can't stand'em.

Yay on Bones, as well... I added it to my queue as well

As well, I like to say 'as well'

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not a fan of turkey, either. At all.

[identity profile] calixa.livejournal.com 2007-09-12 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Nor me. I don't like duck, either.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
never had duck.

[identity profile] southerndave.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind turkey... to me it's just chicken on a larger scale. On the other hand, I loathe goose...

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Turkey tastes like second rate chicken to me.

Never had goose.

i would say that the reason you don't like steak is that you haven't had good steak.

good steak really changed my whole notion of what steak is supposed to taste like.

I live in Texas, where half the population lives for steak. I've been having steak of variouis kinds since i had teeth. I have been told I don't like steak because i haven't had good steak and then given a good steak more times than i can remember. it's why i avoid mentioning it in person now. I've heard(literally) the exact wording of the comment so many times...

[identity profile] uclamaverick.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
i don't know what to say, then. are you having the steak cooked medium? well-done? medium rare?

igotnuthin.

I've had it all 3 ways. I just don't care for it.

1. I received Supernatural season 2 today!

2. I love seafood and meat. But I prefer beef over pork, unless it's bacon. In which case, get out of my way because I want that strip of bacon. Chicken is a staple for me. Don't like turkey. Love love love duck.

But you're certainly not alone. Plenty of my friends don't particularly care for beef, and I'm not even talking about the vegetarians-of-some-kind. I think it's just your location that makes you feel so isolated.

YAY! Like I said, I MIGHT be able to work it(looking more likely) so that I can get Supernatural S2...Bones won because I remember Supernatural S1 having better amazon prices through christmas than S1 of Bones did.

Bacon is my preferred pork, but I'm greatful ham is there at thanksgiving and christmas time. When I'm in charge of my own food, it's usually chicken and pasta or fish and pasta or bread(and then salad, unless there are veggies in the pasta) Barring when I randomly have breakfast skillets for lunch or supper.

And yeah, I know a chunk of it is location. I haven't been outside of Texas an incredibly lot, but when I have, I've been in love with the menus.

I prefer chicken. But I don't turn down hamburgers as a general rule. But that's just me.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
I go in cycles of not liking certain meats. Right now chicken is OMG GOOD, beef is in the ascendancy, but pork is on the way down. I can tell when I'm about to start not liking something by when I start feeling vaguely nauseated at the idea of a large hunk o'whatever it is. I spent the last few years feeling ill at the thought of Hunk o'Steak, or Hunk o'Chuck Roast*, but right now I'd really like a good steak. So I know that beef is coming in. Pork roast, though ... um, not so appealing.

Five years from now it'll be completely different, of course. (And I also live in Texas and have been served good steak, bad steak, and everything in between.)

* Exception: steak the way my dad made it, with garlic and Worcestershire sauce and lemon pepper rubbed into it, then grilled, but that's a comfort food and thus not subject to other Rules of Eating.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
I've been served virtually every form of steak known to man, I think. It's just never taken.

I think there's just something about when dads cook meat...I love my dad's hamburger patties(it involves cracker crumbs and lots of seasonings) and he makes the best grilled chicken I've ever had.

Parent Food is always excluded from the rules of eating. Even Parent Food you don't like.
