Women in refrigerators strike back.

 (Ok, for anyone unfamiliar with "women in refrigerators," it refers to the tendency to off (or otherwise harm) women-usually girlfriends-so the heroes can angst and suffer, coined when Ron Marz had Green Lantern come home one day to find his girlfriend had been murdered and stuffed in the refrigerator for him to find.)

Anyway, via comments in a post of troubleinchina's, R.H. Milholland, creator of Something Positive, has a soon-to-be fridged woman objecting to the trend.  Strongly.

And in response to one of the finest and most casual cases of character butchering I have seen (thus killing the "I need to catch up on comics" urge that was building up) scans_dailyhas started an unofficial "When Jubilee Was Awesome" (read, "when they weren't having Jubilee casually betraying everything she ever stood for because it's the only way you can be cool and badass in superhero comics these days") week.

Crown Duel is one of those books I've had lying around forever, and desperately need to read one of these days. I've read that 'Super Stupors' comic. I personally am not fond of S*P, but Super Stupors is pretty fun, and I love this particular strip.

I read Crown Duel a month or two ago. Pretty good. I've been reading a lot of YA fantasy lately, and it's been one of the best.

I used to read Something Positive, but haven't read webcomics in ages. I didn't even realize he'd ended it and started another.

Oh, he didn't. S*P is still running - R.K. Millohand's running like..four comics, right now. S*P, two prequels to S*P, and Super Stupors.
I read a lot of YA fantasy, myself. Have you read Wicked Lovely? I need to start reading more of what I have at home. First I have these ARCs that need reading and reviewing, then I'm going to stop checking out library books for a while I can focus on what I have.

It's an Urban Fantasy about faeries. You know, along the lines of Tithe, etc. And I love books like Tithe, but this one is set apart. The characterization is good, the main character, Ash(short for Aislinn) is a genuinely strong girl that can see fairies, knows all about them, and hides this fact from Tall Emo Ethereal Fairy Boy(Who, by the way, is not her love interest, and is also clearly flawed in his massive ego and flair for the dramatic), for most of the book. The villain is a tad cliche, very 'Cruella de Ville' esque, but the writing is pretty solid, and there's a follow-up, Ink Exchange, that just came out.

The Jubilee thing mirrors my own vast disappointment when they started having Wolfsbane kill people.

Yeah, I would have said that one was as likely as Jubilee randomly deciding it was time to start killing her opponents. Until, you know, both happened. Maybe both can be skrulls?

They've had Mary Jane Week after a similar round of Marvel Misogynogoround. I adore the Kickass Women retrospectives...but I want them to be not necessary!

Yeah, I enjoyed Mary Jane Week too, even though I'm not a big Spidey fan. (I like Spidey and Spidey/MJ just fine, but I kinda bounce off the iconic heroes, aside from WW and, at times, Captain America.)
