Mushishi Vol 3

This is a series that remains very enjoyable and interesting, but I have little to say about it. I also wish I were in the mood for it more often, as it really is something I need to be in the mood for to read. I wonder if that will still be true when I finally make it to the anime.

Somehow, there seemed to be less detailed descriptions of the mushi, but it’s been a while since I read the first two volumes, so I may have just built that up in my head.

I really liked the story with the girl whose voice attracted the rust mushi, and how she was able to take care of that (the first stages, at least) by herself, without Ginko’s helping her. The mushi inkstone story was also very fun. And am I the only one who thinks Ginko’s overly-curious friend kind of looks like Hakkai?

That “Yoki” was Ginko in the flashback story was pretty obvious from the start, but I liked his mentor’s story. I half wish, though, that there had been something a little different to it. (Wouldn’t it be fun if all mushishi were one-eyed and had white hair?) I guess that, really, I wish it hadn’t been obvious almost from the first page.

Ginko also mentions mushishi records in one of the stories. Again, it’s been a while since I read the first two volumes, but I don’t remember it being indicated that mushishi were that organized before. Unless I’m completely misremembering and the story with the older lady and the library was about that, instead of it just being a lady with a lot of books like I’m remembering. My memory does tend to be rather selective at times.

Have you seen the anime? It's oh-so-good ♥ And I really want to see the live action movie and read more of the manga *only has vol 1 right now* Del Rey is awesome sauce but so expensive. :(

Del Rey charges more for Mushishi than their other manga, but like Tokyo Pop and Hotel Africa, I consider it work the price hike. Mushishi also has higher production values and a larger page count than most Del Rey (or other) manga.

ETA: But no, haven't seen the anime or movie yet.

Ohh, you must see the anime. It's so gorgeous. (It's my second favorite anime series in the whole world~♥)

You should watch the anime it is amazing...I love the manga but the anime is pretty much a perfect adaption. I even like it more than the manga (which is rare) because it really brings the story to life.

Ginko also mentions mushishi records in one of the stories. Again, it’s been a while since I read the first two volumes, but I don’t remember it being indicated that mushishi were that organized before.

Mushishi in general are all very different. They don't all go around helping people like Ginko. Some study Mushi and write up research notes, some just kill the mushi and see them as dangerous, some collect things, some act a mushishi to one village, etc.

*nods*

That I remembered. Ginko's mention of mushishi records just implied more organization than I'd previously assumed.

I think it is a good reflection of the series

I going to say you need to watch the anime....but I've been beaten to it. I do so love this series, but like you, it is something that I read/watch when the mood strikes me.

I've been planning to watch the anime for a long time, I just haven't yet.

I think it is one of those things in which one has to feel like it. Mushishi is no ordinary fandom in that I only crave it every once in awhile and don't immediately want more right away.

I haven't read under the cut as I'm currently in the process of watching the anime, but I'd like to say that it is amazing, especially the animation and art.

I think volume three was the one where Mushishi was picked up for serialization in a monthly magazine and the art started to become less detailed. Still great though. I love all the tone, the greyness has a real horror-manga vibe to it, but instead of being unsettling like a horror manga, it's soothing, in a "the world is a dangerous place and you can't change it, you can only take precautions" kind of way.

Check out the trees and leaves and plants in the first two volumes. I swear you can identify the species by the shapes of the leaves.
