Mushishi Vol 3

This is a series that remains very enjoyable and interesting, but I have little to say about it. I also wish I were in the mood for it more often, as it really is something I need to be in the mood for to read. I wonder if that will still be true when I finally make it to the anime.

Somehow, there seemed to be less detailed descriptions of the mushi, but it’s been a while since I read the first two volumes, so I may have just built that up in my head.

I really liked the story with the girl whose voice attracted the rust mushi, and how she was able to take care of that (the first stages, at least) by herself, without Ginko’s helping her. The mushi inkstone story was also very fun. And am I the only one who thinks Ginko’s overly-curious friend kind of looks like Hakkai?

That “Yoki” was Ginko in the flashback story was pretty obvious from the start, but I liked his mentor’s story. I half wish, though, that there had been something a little different to it. (Wouldn’t it be fun if all mushishi were one-eyed and had white hair?) I guess that, really, I wish it hadn’t been obvious almost from the first page.

Ginko also mentions mushishi records in one of the stories. Again, it’s been a while since I read the first two volumes, but I don’t remember it being indicated that mushishi were that organized before. Unless I’m completely misremembering and the story with the older lady and the library was about that, instead of it just being a lady with a lot of books like I’m remembering. My memory does tend to be rather selective at times.
