V (2009) 1.2

Better paced and written than the first episode, though still enjoyable more for the characters and potential than anything actually happening. Though, OMG I hate modern structuring of TV arcs so much! Like, there’s virtually no payoff on an episodic basis? I notice this when I’m watching shows on DVD, but it usually doesn’t interfere with my enjoyment as I can watch in chunks, or even an episode a day. Dollhouse, which is the only other show I’ve tried watching as it aired in the last few years, had this problem, too, but it would have been a blessing if that even compared when held up to its other problems.
Spoilers:
1. I kind of love how Erica isn’t even hesitating to paint her partner as a traitor, and how she’s meaning exactly what she says in some things that normally wouldn’t be what was meant.
2. I also love how most of her conversations with Father Jake are pretty much an exact gender reversal of the typical conversations for the genre, but without typecasting either in gender reversed roles. A bit weirded out by how the show seems to want me to root for them as a pairing, though. (But not as much as I think I should be.)
3. When Anna looks at the reporter, she is clearly wondering if he would taste best fried, baked, sautéed or boiled, and what seasoning would go best with him. I find that strangely appealing. Also, his snark is growing on me.
4. I’m glad I don’t like Tyler, otherwise, I’d feel guilty about anticipating Lisa’s inevitable crushing of his heart. Unless she is redeemed by love of him, in which case, ick.
5. Morris and his girlfriend continue to be pretty, and so I continue to pray that she’ll do more than be the pure human girlfriend he must protect.
6. I am very curious about the previous rebellion! A part of me kind of wants it to be Morris and his friends who his on earth and have been found or something, but (A) it doesn’t fit with what we’ve been shown so far, and (B) I’m pretty sure they were like Dale, but defected after being on Earth for a while.
7. OMG SNAKES ACK! OMG GIANT NEEDLE EEK!!
In short: Please don’t take a full season to get around to getting the rebellion going! But as long as this doesn’t end up being all about annoying teenagers, the rebellion doesn’t center about Jake lecturing Erica about her methods, and Anna doesn’t start raping people, I think we’re good. Theoretically, none of those will happen.I need my faith in modern scifi TV restored, and season 2 of SCC is being saved until after I finish Babylon 5.
