Lydia is a “fairy doctor” (which basically means she sees and talks to fairies, and makes them leave you alone if they’re pestering you too much) in 19th century Scotland. She has a talking fairy cat named Nico, and they’re both basically kidnapped by Edgar (ok, just her, but it’s a package deal) the “Blue Knight Earl,” who needs Lydia to help him find a magic sword and prove him innocent of a bunch of murders. And he has a combat butler. And sparkles. A lot. He would sparkle at Edward Cullen as he stabbed him in the heart.

Despite the kidnapping aspect (To which Lydia remains pretty consistently “Nnnnnooooeeeessss why is my weird scary kidnapper hitting on me so much it is weird stop that!” until she’s working for him instead, and I think there were other people plotting to kidnap her for the same reason at the time, too, and he was less nasty?) the first half was pretty fun. Shoujo fanservice in the extreme, but pretty upbeat and entertaining, and the plot was a bit different for anime. But after the first arc, there isn’t really any urgency, either to the romantic plotline or the real killer or the fae shenanigans and whatnot. It just kinda…went along, without any real feeling for a need for resolution, or concern poisonings and kidnappings and stabbings and such. So, fun, but it could have been better.
