So, is it just me, or did the last episode of Yu Yu Hakusho randomly transform from 90s shounen to 90s shoujo, artstyle and all?  There was even a cascade of sparkles at the end.  (They pretended it was the sun glittering off the waves, but I know shoujo sparkles when I see them.  Possibly, the last set of ending credits was a hint.

Also, you could kind of tell when the anime stopped following Togashi's manga.  Things got way more conventional and less "ZOMG!  Symbolic love child of Tite Kubo and Clamp's combined Ids!" and the number of female fighters went from about 1 to 8.  9While simultaneously mangaing to have women around a bit less?  I don't know!)

IMO, the anime tries to make more sense than the manga (since the final manga chapters have this disjointed, slice of life-ish feel to them), thus the changes, which should also explain the sparkles and the kiss.
