The first 2-6 episodes of most sageuks (depending on length and how close to a traditional/biodrama it is) are usually childhood portions, though less often in fusion sageuks. (WBDS is one of the few fusion sageuks that's a fictionalized biodrama.) I'm fine with them because even if the kids aren't great (though they have a really good pool of young actors thatthey draw from) the setups for the rest of the series is usually good.
Ga-Ok (the lady assassin who wears masculine clothes but isn't actually crossdressing) is actually my favorite fictional character of the last couple years.
