52 Week #17-21:
At this point, I’m wondering why I don’t just switch it over to trades. I’m already getting it in groups of 4-5 at a time, so the "weekly" part is lost on me, anyway. On the other hand, we’re almost halfway through it, anyway…it’s back on track after some straying, nice to finally focus some more on the space heroes(Lobo+religion=scary) Montoya annoyed me slightly less, Ralph is closer to being Ralph(and at least his angst/over-intensity is well justified) and up to interesting things, and maybe Booster isn’t gonegone after all. And Black Adam and The Question(why can’t they put his mini out as a trade already…) Happiness, overall.Annihilation #2: Rapidly becoming one of my favorite marvel titles(Cap. is drowning in Civil War stuff right now and Runaways is about to get a creative change after killing one of the best things about it, making Annihilation’s only real competition is Cable & Deadpool, which is still awesome) Drax and Cammie never fail to crack me up and the only thing better is Nova being the guy stuck in charge, which he clearly views as a necessary evil(seriously, someone better suited/qualified comes along, and the boy will hug them) infinitely better done and more interesting than Civil War, so guess which gets all the attention…
Aquaman Sword Of Atlantis #44: I have to admit, it’s been so long since read it that I had, ah, forgotten about it…bad Megs. This issue, though, was great, and definitely saved it from cull/trade switchover for now. And Marc…I think you were right.
Athena Voltaire Flight Of The Falcon #1 Ape Ed: Or "issues one and two repackaged together even though issue two never made it out originally" Still a great adventure book with strong Xenozoic Tales vibes…even though it’s nothing like XT, the feel is so strongly similar that I couldn’t drop it if I wanted to. But I don’t want to.
Looking Glass Wars Hatter M #3: If I had any faith in this title making it to trade, I’d switch it over. Not that there’s anything remotely wrong with it, it’s a great, dark take on a reverse Alice in Wonderland, it’s just that it’s so long in between issues and would read better that way.
More Than Mortal: A Legend Reborn #1/2: Well, based on this, it looks like one of my more missed, horrendously ended series is returning well, despite being from avatar. Scott still seems to be committed to Irish history and mythology, and it looks like Brigid is actually wearing more now(odd, given Avatar’s reputation) I wish the series was about Derdre instead of Brigid, though. On the one hand, yes, Brigid is actually the more interesting character, but her character always worked best for me in the context of her relationship with Derdre, and her time/problems are considerably more well tread, while the storylines with Derdre seemed more interesting to me. Still, very much looking forward to it.
Runaways Vol 2 #20: Actual thoughts: "SQUISH DOGZILLA! SQUISH LIKE THERE’S NO TOMO—bah." Given the recent creative changes, I guess it only make sense that this and the last issue largely give me the feeling that Vaughan is trying to wrap up the Gibborim stuff soon(as in, before the originally stated timeline) Ah well. Not a lot to say, really…will likely have more when/if the focus shifts to Chase.
Secret Six #4: Good, but it seemed mostly transitional. "Here’s the new Doom Patrol. They have problems. We got little else, so lets throw in some Vandal Savage stuff and twisted humor an call it a day." Far from bad, but I expected more.
Witchblade #101: Sigh…Gleason…you are more and more quickly moving from "Jake 2.0" status(which was ok aside from annoyance at Jake and Ian being gone in favor of you) but you are quickly switching over to "Gary Stu" status. In fact, you’re about the only thing keeping this book from being near the top of the stack right now. Not sold on the blonde just yet…not exactly an intro designed to endear her towards readers. Maybe it’s a hint that the "only for the pregnancy storyline" theory is true. Nice to know Gleason ISN’T involved in the pregnancy, though we already knew that. Biologically, if anyone else is involved, I suspect it’ll be Ian(if the Witchblade was remotely involved) or Jake(via demon possession vessel stuff) Also, last page? Much squeeing, gives me a few months Gleason tolerance. But if Sara is surprised by that(what, she thought it’d last longer than he wanted it to?) then I’ll be extremely disappointed.
